Yes, I'm still awake, but!

So I forgot about this in the midst of--everything.

My Merlin fic Tintagel was translated into Russian by TaiD here for the Russian Merlin Big Bang and archived at AO3. Even if you don't read Russian, the artwork in there is amazing; the picture of Ygraine and Nimueh feels almost like a stylized medieval portrait. So yes, I stare at them and go "oooh."

I was reminded because a.) today I saw a request to link Tintagel today to it (Russian translation! HOW IS THAT NOT AWESOME?) and then tonight when [personal profile] svmadelyn sent me to youtube to watch a cat fight a printer, I ran across a trailer for the Russian translation of Tintagel by algine2006 and holy shit it tells the entire story like, perfectly. I've watched it three times and seriously, wow.

Okay, so I am very distracted from panic; thank you Russian Big Bang.

Also of excitement:

Here [personal profile] cybel posted a podfic of When the Sky Falls Down (Smallville, Clark/Lex), which I somehow--beyond understanding--missed.

At this point, there is every possibility I have a notice somewhere of winning the lottery and missed it the way I seem to be like, losing time or whatever. I apologize both to TaiD and Cybel for being so late being squeeful--this is awesome and I appreciate your hard work so much and am so happy this stuff exists. *hugs you both*
Things That Happened

So Monday I went to the doctor for the entire lack of coffee and some other random foods in my life and the worry that escalation can only lead to madness or potentially, crying. After consideration of the fact that I said coffee about twenty times, he gave me a script to see if that would help, then also scheduled an ultrasound for my gall bladder, which is new and not exciting at all.

I also mentioned the return of fatigue, lack of concentration, constant hunger, weight fluctuations etc, so we did another blood test, and I am up to 75MCGs for the thyroid thing, which is an increase of 50%. I assume that means that the test came back elevated. According to websites I googled, the average dose is between 100MCGs and 125MCGs, so I'm still below the curve on that, but I assume it will increase with age. Oh joy.

Interesting Things

Absinthe, my netbook, apparently heard I wanted to mod her and decided to stop working. Or rather, the internal wireless card stopped working. After disassembling her again, I hunted up my other wireless card that I replaced in Adam the laptop and found out, yeah, definitely a card issue. The problem is, netbooks are really efficient, and by that I mean, squished inside. Sadistically so. My original card in there was a half-mini wireless card, which is predictably half the size of a regular mini card (half-mini = size of a Triscuit--I checked). To accommodate the half-mini, two extra rivets were attached to the mother board to screw it in. The full mini (size of two Triscuits--yes, I did check) is too long.

You already can see why I put "interesting" here. It looks as if I may get to solder--or rather, desolder or whatever the term may be to remove the rivets so the card fits. I know, this can't end well. And yet, I am excited.

...if I'm going to be soldering anyway, maybe I should go ahead and try that touchscreen thing, y/y?

Happy Things

[livejournal.com profile] nadis17 translated Job Orientation, Merlin, Merlin/Arthur, into Russian! The translation is posted here.

I seriously went looking for my first and second semester Russian books. I can still recognize Cyrillic, but not so much with actually reading it. *glee* I am easy to please. Russian! Right there!
Oh, I forgot! Podfic!

(It's like an embarrassment of riches going on with podficcing; I am listening to them at work (to avoid that messy boots-too-expensive-sink-too-small-to-drown-in issue).)

One AM read by [livejournal.com profile] paraka, AIRPS, Adam/Kris, the one that's about how Kris is totally not abused. Because that's something that needed to be written.

Efficient read by [livejournal.com profile] fleurrochard, Merlin, Merlin/Arthur. She did this one a while back and I totally missed it.

Happy.
Part A

Is complaisancy a word? I have seen it written but it keeps being picked up by the dictionary as misspelled and this is working against my zen.

It's bothering me, okay?

ETA: Complacency. I love [livejournal.com profile] cofax7 so much. I was kind of going crazy.

Part B

More podfics of my Five Things fics! by [livejournal.com profile] fleurrochard, including Five Times Merlin Couldn't Take His Eyes Off Arthur, Three things (or four, or five, depending on your inspiration!) that Merlin doesn't know about Arthur, but will do, eventually, and Five magical creatures Arthur didn't kill. She makes them sound like, amazingly deep and awesome.

I love podfic.

Part C

The Broccoli Test on DW, which makes me kind of nostalgic for a time I wasn't in fandom.

So it's like, not uncommon for me to rec new comms I'm reading, but usually I do it under flock in case it turns into a dark place of wank or for plausible deniability I was ever there or posted anything ever, but this one I'm still curious about because I'm not sure where they're going with this. Fanspastic advertises itself thus:
Fanspastic is a space by slashers, for slashers, by women, for women, and unashamed of it. It is not your mama's fandom knitting circle. There are no communities, we have no membership or cliques. Fanspastic has an editorial staff and an editorial point of view. It's not personal: it's fandom.

[Disclaimer: I have been reading it from a link from a friend for several weeks and posted the Broccoli Test link to metafandom since I thought it was funny and I was in the nostalgia mood for fandom gone by. And I admit it, I want to see how other people react to it, since I'm in the positive but confused mix of the spectrum.]

Anyway, on the strength of this entry on the new Dr. Who, I kind of fell in love. Well, that and the fic header breakdowns.

It's not that I'm against in any way the way meta in fandom has grown and expanded, but a leavening of fannish meta-ishness (meta-lite? meta-fandom-specific) is really nice as well. Yes, I do indeed miss ship wars sometimes. Shoot me now that I can still say that without irony.
five ways arthur almost found out about merlin, but didn't., read by [livejournal.com profile] fleurrochard. Okay, if you don't recognize this one (I didn't!), it's here.

...I may have had to listen to this like, three times so far.

Okay, this week is going far better than like, my life would suggest up to now. I seriously expect a pony on the front door to show up. With wings.
Okay, seriously, all I had to do was give blanket permission? Really? *glee*

Job Orientation in both audiobook and mp3 form, read by [livejournal.com profile] eosrose, which is the one where Merlin is emo and conjures up a tower. I'm halfway through and seriously, it sounds amazing. And I love how she does Merlin.

This day ended much better than it started.
Podfic! Okay, officially, this is better than ponies.

Truth Is a Whisper in audiobook or mp3 form, read by [livejournal.com profile] crinklysolution. I've gotten five minutes into it and surprisingly forgot what exactly the entire first section entails. *g* Link goes directly to her entry.

Note to self: wear headphones when listening or this will require explanations of my hobbies that Child only understands in a vague theoretical way. Save the concrete understanding for when it will be most effectively hilarious to play it in his hearing.

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] crinklysolution. So far, this is excellent.
For earlier years, here. I swear I did it every year, but tags do not lie. I really need to go through my calendar and confirm this.

So statistically speaking, I killed a lot fewer characters this year. No one was raped, mutilated, or tortured, though some may have been drugged. There were new fandoms, old fandoms, things I'd never done before, and things I've wanted to do for a while.

There was Star Trek, my first fandom and the root of a lifetime of adoration of sci-fi, and there was RPS, which, yeah, I didn't see that coming like, at all. And there were people that make life so much more than it would have been without them.

Just Wait For It
Normally, I wouldn't post this, as it's not even a story, more a conceptualization of a story idea, but I am trying to bribe [livejournal.com profile] aelora and I think she'd get a kick out of this.

As [livejournal.com profile] aelora needs to finish this Heroes fic that I am kind of drugged by, and what do you know, Zachary Quinto was enough to totally make me watch the show. Who saw that coming?

merlinfic: bedmate

To say this is a story overstates the case dramatically and raises expectations it cannot possibly fulfil. This is porn. And it's not even plotty porn. I mean, you can skip the first six paragraphs and be fine. You won't miss anything but the weather.

Bedmate
by Seperis
"I'd like to see you do this to yourself one day," Arthur says against Merlin's ear. "Watch you spread your legs and wet your fingers, slide them inside to make yourself ready for me."
Written for [livejournal.com profile] winterlive, because porn recs were not good enough for her, no, she needed something new, and right now in AIM, please. Which you know, I'm easy like that.

[livejournal.com profile] eloriee has translated So Are They All, All Honourable Men into Italian and it is archived here at Fire and Blade. Requires registration to access.

[livejournal.com profile] eloriee -- thank you very, very much. I keep randomly going to look at it in wonder. As this is so cool.

Okay, one, to say this is the most awesome thing ever is to understate--two, well-known, obvious fact: Spanish does not, in fact, really prepare you to read advanced Italian, like, at all. But I get to look at it and at the English file and glee ridiculously.

I'm going to be fairly gleeful about this for a bit, I think.

Day Three (Four?) of My Life as a Germ Depository:

Due to work rules, I have to go to the doctor today and get a note excusing me from work for having the plague. On the upside, there's no chest congestion, which is yay, as I have been a totally paranoid person and spending a lot of time coughing as much as possible to test this. For anyone who has had pneumonia and the doctor gave you a torture device to breathe with and then cough copiously, you remember this horror, but it's not nearly that bad. On the downside, head congestion is like walking around with lead sewn into my cheekbones and head and a headache that is like an analogy for the hugeness of the Titanic--or perhaps Australia?--and I have no intention of actually thinking up an adequate analogy so just deal.

So. Being miserable and sick, I want attention and basically, I will take it any way I can get it. Snippet below cut. It's a dumb snippet. But I am sick and it made me laugh myself into easy coughing fits to imagine it, so there you go. Dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] shinetheway for her life-saving porn ficlets. This is not porn. Which you will see, is the entire problem.

Title: The Tale of the Sea Serpent
Author: Seperis

Spoilers: 1.13 Le Morte d'Arthur, first season in general
Summary: Prequel to Job Orientation. Before anyone built towers or became kings that hide from councils or thought five hundred steps was some kind of actual challenge, there was a prince, a sorcerer, and a sea serpent in a river. But really, it started well before that. Because first, there was a prince, and silence, and a secret that was no secret at all.
Author Notes: This is entirely and completely [livejournal.com profile] mercurydraconix's fault for thinking the sea serpent deserved a starring role somewhere. I admit it, I had a dream. Please for the love of God, do not ask, just nod patiently. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chopchica, [livejournal.com profile] tricksterquinn and [livejournal.com profile] shinetheway for reading it in progress and petting me when needed and writing me fic so this would not all end in blood and toads on a distant riverbank after far too much rain. [livejournal.com profile] shinetheway corrected my sentences and mocked Arthur's angst mercilessly, which you know, he totally deserved.

Basically, it was this or an apocalypse, and I've destroyed the world, according to my own tags, like ten times and that's just not healthy. Or so people say. Spoilers: None specific, first season in general.
Summary: Arthur's biggest problem to date, Merlin thinks darkly as he carries yet another load of suspiciously not-really-dirty clothing down the stairs, is an unaccountable fear of anyone, anywhere, suspecting he's capable of being other than a complete and utter prat.
Author Notes: Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] chopchica for audiencing and encouragement, which is always pleasing. For a pwp that lacks even the rudiments of shame, this turned out rather long. I think Merlin is my voice of porn, or something. No clue what is up with that.

Author Notes: My thanks to [livejournal.com profile] green_grrl and [livejournal.com profile] elke_tanzer for beta and remarks and lots and lots of poking and to [livejournal.com profile] transtempts for encouraging the entire thing. Author Notes: I am totally at one with my kinks. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] chopchica for pre-reading and squealing noises, and also to [livejournal.com profile] shinetheway, who is making me read medieval porn and so if the words 'verily' and 'maketh' show up in here somewhere (I checked, but God knows I don't know what's normal anymore), that's who you blame.

This is exactly as historically accurate as the show. I love when I can excuse my low standards of research with canon.

Thanks for everyone yesterday who pointed out the low, low chances of me achieving non-existence via thyroid. Just, in my defense, happy Czech accent giving the news on an otherwise normal workday. Wasn't ready for that.

Okay, I know this is true, but I never knew it was true to me off fandom. The internet really does seem to make it much easier to be an extremist. This is brought to you by recent vaccination wank. I mean, granted, I am pro-vaccination like whoa, but that is from the intrinsic idea that I do not want to die. However, during discussion, I was interested to realize I also have a historical perspective on the subject, because I started writing a story involving maybe an outbreak of some, you know, disease, and you know what really sensitizes you to that sort of thing? Reading about lots and lots of plague victims being burned in town square. I really wanted to go get a shot after that. I mean, of alcohol. And be vaccinated for everything in the universe.

You know, this may be one of the more useless entries I've ever made.
