Medicaid and You - The Short Version

So I've been saying I'd do an informational entry in a continuing effort to offer up options for those who want to receive government benefits in the state of Texas--I think the last time I covered any ground was during Katrina, so today, a little more.

This is all about Medicaid and You.

This is a brief version to give an overview only. To actually find out if you qualify, you will need to turn in an application. For actaul detailed info, you will need to see a caseworker. My specialization and training was in Food Stamps, Medicaid for Families, and TANF, not the long-term cares for the aged and disabled, so my information is pretty basic.

Again, cannot emphasize enough: INFORMATIONAL. This cannot and will not take the place of a trained caseworker or social worker making an assessment.

One of the more bewildering things is a client will give me their name, ssn, address, number of kids, and sometimes terrifyingly personal information over the phone, then when I can't answer their question the way they want, resort to using profanity in a couple of languages directed at me.

It's not so much that I'd use the information for evil, like, *ever*, or that any of us would. But I have to admit. When I am say, calling for tech support or some issue, if I'm reasonably sure anyone could track me down to kill me? I'm rather nice.

I don't think there is anything like working in social services to really really make you lose your faith in humanity, and possibly, in the healing powers of chocolate. I need to test that during lunch.

Organizing del.icio.us tags has to be the equivalent of organizing your pantry in alphabetical order. I mean, I'm like, refining tags, staring at them to see if they should be more detailed or less detailed or--something.

Part of it is to jog my memory, part of it is organization, but most of it is this weird, weird glee. Siren-dean! Own tag! mckay-genderswitch! own tag! Wait, in one the descriptor is first, then the name, in the other, the name is first! Must fix! MUST MAKE IT PERFECT!

Seriously. This is like OCD level stuff. God this is fun.
