*staring off into the distance*
One of the more bewildering things is a client will give me their name, ssn, address, number of kids, and sometimes terrifyingly personal information over the phone, then when I can't answer their question the way they want, resort to using profanity in a couple of languages directed at me.
It's not so much that I'd use the information for evil, like, *ever*, or that any of us would. But I have to admit. When I am say, calling for tech support or some issue, if I'm reasonably sure anyone could track me down to kill me? I'm rather nice.
I don't think there is anything like working in social services to really really make you lose your faith in humanity, and possibly, in the healing powers of chocolate. I need to test that during lunch.

From:Don't know if you watch Criminal Minds--but earlier this month the serial killer of the week was a work at home tech support guy who was targeting customers. Just in case viewers weren't paranoid enough.

From:I've been punched in the face at work, in front of 2 uniformed policemen and 2 detectives. (The punch was unexpected, the police were there for different reasons but god, if you are going to assault someone, surely, no, the mind boggles)
Or there was the drug addict who stole the cordless phone handset...
Or the people who walk up to the door, walk to reception, then limp or hop into the room with the ankle they "can't walk on it"
I can go on!

Um, teaching? Because - yeah - students who will turn in plagiarised papers more than once during a semester. And they're so easy to catch now I can show them where they bought the essay and how much they paid. Also, when they get to the third dead grandmother. And noting Sparknotes as a source on their list of Works Cited....
I'll stop now. But there's more.
Much, much more.
