more vid recs

Maybe I'll use this post for vid recs from VVC.

Like a Stone by [livejournal.com profile] sdwolfpup, Prison Break

Whoa. And. Fuck. Okay, the hot on this is exponential, and the fast scene cuts just add to the obsessive, sweaty, heated need pounding through the entire thing. It's all about addiction, to drugs and to a single person. I just--really. I've watched this four times and then bought the song, okay? That.

There's a lot I could say technically about it, though I don't think I have the vocabulary yet to really explain, much less the actual knowledge, so laugh at will.

It's a fast vid, even when it's not, with flashes of the slow descent into desperation and obsession and need. It's sharp and violent and follows the character's pov in a very third-person limited. I thought I had favorite moments, but the truth is, I love it all. Watch for: the wall and echoing between the characters early on, the fight in the yard, and the bit near the end with the knife and back to caressing the wall. Around someone. Drug use as heaven, with a semi-explicit pose of ecstacy and spread thighs was fantastically timed.

This proves dirty is sexy. And God, is it.

Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You) by [livejournal.com profile] fan_eunice, Dr. Who

Master and Doctor. It sounds like the start of some very specialized porn, and well. Yeah. The vid's fantastic though, as quirky as the Doctor, and gets across both the whimsy and the fixation both. You will laugh. But you'll still hurt a little at the end. She's that good.

White America by anonymous, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, Veronica Mars

This one has some discussion as well as the link. I'm still thinking through what I got out of it, which was intensely both racial and classist (by that I mean, exploration of class), but this one has a *lot* of discussion and I'm still not sure. I liked it, though. A lot.

Yes, I have my drugs. Kinda a bit high, really. I may post dS fic tonight. If I can keep remembering how to type.

Hey, so, since this is your vid-rec post, I guess this is tangentially related. In SGA, there was the "Welcome Home" vid a few years ago--the focus was primarily John, Atlantis, and Elizabeth, and the song was "The Blood of CuChulainn" by Mychael and Jeff Danna.
Do you know where I can find it? My google-fu is failing me, and I haven't been able to watch it since my laptop Snark committed seppuku in the middle of last year's NaNo.

I think that's by [livejournal.com profile] permetaform. Here (http://community.livejournal.com/kanzeyori/11150.html) you go.

You are amazing. And fast :) But mostly amazing. Thanks!

*winces* I'm glad they found it so fast! I love that one, too.

That Prison Break vid? Makes me eye my season 3 discs and consider a small season 2-3 marathon. OMG. *flails* They are so *flails some more* I ship them. Yes, I do.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-08-21 02:16 am (UTC)
Yes, this. I want to see the show now.

Especially for that Prison Break songvid. Alex is one of my favourites (okay, possibly my absolutle favourites, but it's normally a toss-up between hima dn Michael as to who I like more) and this vid is so... it's so much like stepping inside his head, creepy obsession and freaky intelligence and morally ambiguous and all of that.

I downloaded, then snuck a quick watch during lunch-time, and I'm spending the afternoon with that song on repeat. It's been a while since I've fallen for a songvid so hard.

My Two Cents

From: [identity profile] sisabet.livejournal.com Date: 2008-08-21 12:11 am (UTC)
God, "White America" -- I am actually offended by this vid and NOT due to the content. I am offended this is a really *bad* vid and someone has to say it.

Seriously, the structure is all to hell, the idea is muddled and it could have been BRILLIANT! I think the effort in submitting the vid anonymously and continuing to stay anonymous took more effort than actually making the vid. It just seems like a desperate plea for attention (more of the troll posting anonymous variety) than any sort of coherant argument.

I think we just *want* for this vid to be something it isn't - a fuck you to fandom or to classism and racism and possibly sexism in fandom and while it doesn't succeed on ANY of these measures, we want it so badly that we will talk about it anyway.

Re: My Two Cents

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-08-21 12:20 am (UTC)
Hmm. I don't think I disagree with that, actually. I've read all the arguments and remember the ones during the show, and I'm still confused on what it *was* supposed to get across. I watched it again to check, and I'm still not able to really get any kind of solid interpretation, or even a working theory, and man, considering who is posting on it at the vvc comm, I feel like I should have *something* to make it feel tied together.

And yeah, I do think there's a lot of search for something in discussion, and I'm pretty sure I'm doing the same thing when watching. I'm all about mutliplicity in interpretation, but this much, and most of it in pieces, does tend me toward wondering if I'm seeing what I want it to be.

Really, I just wish the discussion was directed more towards Lierdumoa's wonderful Fuck You vid -- a vid that was amazingly made and clearly constructed and has an actual, real, argument.

White America doesn't know what it is and what it wants to be and was probably the most poorly constructed vid I saw all weekend.

Has she put that up yet? I've been bouncing hopefully on that one and the incest and the robot lesbian ones.

Robot Lesbians are a GO! The others have not been posted yet. I can't blame them - posting is hard work and everyone is post-con. *I* haven't posted yet and the only thing I have done today is lay on the sofa and watch Jon and Kate plus 8.

Um, no. Never.

I do have three vids that premiered this weekend to post, so there is that. But, yeah - I am not posting a vid about how I suck to the internet for everyone to see. My sucking is only to be shared to those near and dear to me and present at VVC.

Actually, what I really suddenly want is for everyone to be inspired to do a commentary track on their vids. That, honestly, was fascinating to read along with. Like a live dvd commentary, come to think. That was my favorite part.

Oh man, that Prison Break vid! I love it with all my heart. Michael and Mahone's love is so fucked up. \o/

God. Yes. This. Always.

I think "Like a Stone" might actually get me to watch Prison Break. I hadn't realized that William Fichtner was in it and I absolutely adore him.

The wall-echoes were really shiny, but what I liked most about those sequences was how tactile, sensuous Mahone's (yeah, I looked it up) obsession is. Everything seems to be through touch, through experience.

Fichtner was just beyond nummy too.

So that season of Prison Break is definitely something I need to see then!
