thought of the day

So about this water falling from the sky thing--is this normal? Also noted: when walking outside, my shoes did not try to melt off my feet.

Curious. One might think to themselves, you mean, central Texas isn't a deathtrap trying to kill us all by cooking us to death? I marvel.

Seriously. There's like, *thunder*. I have never been more excited at the thought of traipsing through mud puddles in my life.
...but, the only thing worse than an oven-esque summer day in Texas is a summer day after a rainstorm, when the clouds dissipate and the sun comes out and the oven turns into a steam cooker. (Just hope the clouds hold until nightfall!)
...God.

Maybe it'll hold until *evening*? Maybe the electricity at work will go out dramatically! But not at home. *crosses fingers*

...TRADE YOU. *lives in Phoenix, AZ* This summer blew; it's decided to actually monsoon properly this year, but oh my god, I'm calling our current temperatures of 106 NICE. BECAUSE THEY ARE. COMPARED TO THE 116-119 TEMPERATURES WE WERE GETTING IN JULY.

I can only take comfort in the fact that in about two months? I will be the one mocking other people and their temperatures; me and my 60s and 70s will be chillin' comfortably warm while other people freeze their asses off.

Phoenix is a special, special place. (I can't wait 'til the snowbirds get here! They drive like, well, dotty old people.)

You know, see, I'd much rather have what you guys have. Because sure, it's finally dropped back down into the high seventies but the humidity remains at Oh My God I'm Swimming To Work levels.

Heat > humidity. Really.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2006-08-29 01:21 pm (UTC)
Oh trust me, the humidity is nothing to sneeze at. *g*

At work we all stood at the window for a good part of the morning in fascination - like those little alien toys from Toy Story, saying "oooooOOOOOooooo."

Could do without the humid-titty though. Mah hair!

Does this mean that you have seen the mystical glowing orb in the sky? It is but a rumor in these parts. (At least since around Thursday. They promise a break in the rain maybe tomorrow, maybe Thursday.)

I shouldn't complain because we had a couple of weeks of sun, but... I have a row of shoes running from "still squishes" to "only slightly damp."

I tried to beat the new-found phenomenon of shoes washing from my feet by doing what I did in California (wear sandals) and ran into some friendly central Texas fire ants, who had been evicted from their homes by a drainage problem with the pool. So I'll get back to you on the deathtrap thing. But when the weatherman says it's only going to be in the lower 90s, I say, isn't that nice?

Seriously. I walked out the door today and almost cried, I was so excited/relieved to see the rain. Every summer, I'm afraid it will never rain again here.

Interestingly enough, I too had the hopeful thought about the electricity going out at work but not at home...I'm not that lucky, though.

I walked across the parking lot yesterday and didn't make any effort to shield my glasses from the rain. Everybody was smiling!

Even though it only took about 10 minutes from the first real rain shower to the first sirens--does *everyone* forget how to drive in this stuff? Or did they even know in the first place?

Well. The cats are freaked out (I have the patio door open for the first time in 2 months, because it's only 73 at 8:35 in the morning) by the smells and the sounds.

And this means the mosquitoes will be back, damnit. But I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

What is this water thing you speak of? I do not understand what you refer to. We have only been in drought for the last decade.

The last puddle I saw was caused by a small child unable to make it to the bathroom on time.

Girl, do you know how happy I was when the local Dallas ABC anchor said the next 10 days would be in the low-mid 90s? And the rain yesterday - oh, the rain. I was loving every single minute of it.

It even got hot and sunny and rainless in ENGLAND this year. I mean, who expects sunny summer weather in an English summer? We have a bloody drought. A drought, in England. It's unnatural, that's what it is.

And they tell us we can expect more of the same in future years. I don't know what the world's coming to.

Still, it's 68 and raining today. That's more like the English summer I know and love.

Heh. Of course, the minute the rain started, everybody on the roads was like "OMG!!! Strange wet substance falling from the sky! Run and hide! Or, failing that, drive like a moron!"

But yeah... rain=bliss. It's not supposed to break 100 for like a *week* here in Dallas.

I walked around all morning this morning with the biggest, dorkiest grin on my face: "It's RAINING. THE RAIN IS MADE OF AWESOME."
