Hypothetically.

Let's say one bought a soldering iron this weekend--being totally hypothetical--and it only works with butane, and say one thinks (or one's immediate family and friends in a three city area) that maybe one needs to get one less--volatile.

...and one's sister refuses to help because of potential for death. Which is not only hypothetical but hypocritical and hey, a little insulting, don't you think?

You know. Should one need another one that isn't powered by small canisters of butane, what would one get?

Mine is electric and fine tipped. It's designed to be used on computer equipment. Nextag carries them, and I think Newegg might as well. It came with my Belkin computer tool kit, which I ordered online. Actually, Microcenter might carry them, and they're online as well.

Don't get a butane one, please? I'd never forgive myself if you burned down your house.

Which Belkin tool kit? I'm using it for motherboard repairs and potentially the installation of a touchscreen.

Why do I get this awful feeling that I'm enabling you?

It was this one: http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=21766 (I'm at work and don't have the patience to do an a-ref). It's an excellent kit and has stood me in very good stead. I bought my own stand (with sponge) for the soldering iron.

You do know how to solder, right? It's not easy, you know. My FIL (the retired engineer) taught me and it took me a long time before I could lay a neat, fine line.
