Sometimes, you find a line so perfect you don't even really need context; in fact, you realize in your heart you will never understand the context. Or like, what the hell. Because it's just that goddamn perfect line.

One:
I'll even accept people hating on Gamzee for his murderclown spree, despite the fact that he's my favorite, because Juggalo junkie murderclowns making out with their boyfriend's severed heads are admittedly not to everyone's taste, but seriously, Tavros?

Two:
Granted, I read a lot of incest and bestiality, but Nazis are where I draw the line.

Both I ran across on fail-fandomanon and saved back to read later in a spirit of wonder. Recording here for later moments where I feel the universe sucks and then I remember murderclowns and anti-Nazi bestiality and it's like, I love fandom like a lot, because these are kind of beautiful.

(One thing I regret about my job is that all our one-liners involve levels of bureaucraticese that aren't available to teh sane, mixed with tester-specific programming slang and acronyms referring to the Medicaid hierarchy and spend-down. Oh my God the hilarity, if you are one of thirteen people in the world. The Medicaid hierarchy only makes sense if you actually own the powerpoint explaining it and memorized it, or your mother helped design it so you were brainwashed, and oh, the jokes I could tell. That make no sense. Unless you'd like to read the powerpoint? It's in color!)

Currently googling on the murderclown. It makes me happy.

I believe the fandom you are looking for is Homestuck (MS Paint Adventures). I'm in the middle of trying to read it. Many sly looks at gaming paradigms.

Yes, that is Homestuck you have encountered. You may read my pimping post here. It could be just your sort of thing -- the romance structure has to be explained with charts, and indeed ... spreadsheets.

This is Gamzee, btw.

Alas, I do not know a really good way to get into it -- I just did the "start at the beginning, read until it gets interesting, then read and NOT STOP OMG".

That would indeed be Homestuck i.e. some of the most addicting crack in the universe. It is basically the unholy lovechild of Earthbound and the Sims. It is a lot of fun! The first part is a bit slow compared to the rest of it, but it is really good and has awesome music. It's kinda sorta a web comic. Well, maybe more of a heavily illustrated story written in the style of an old text-adventure game. With periodic flash videos of awesomeness. Like this one.

Anyway, it is free to read/watch/experience on mspaintadventures.com!

Pretty good, but *profoundly* misleading. Or at least, it leaves out 3/4 of the main characters and half the universes ...

Yeah, but that gives the reader a chance to be surprised! *shrugs* Some people don't like to be spoiled. I mean, it's the kind of trailer I would show Mark Reads if he weren't already slogging his way through.

Once I was in an Akkadian class that was being taught by a professor who does a lot of ancient Persian, and there were three of us in the class--me, another Hittite student, and another student who did Persian--so, four Indo-European specialists. And the professor said THE MOST HILARIOUS THING EVER, prompted by one of the other students making a mistake in the pronunciation of a sibilant--it was a joke based on a phonological rule that shows up in certain branches of Indo-European, and it was basically funny because Akkadian is a Semitic language and so the rule doesn't apply, and also because of how easy it is to make sibilant mistakes when reading Akkadian cuneiform. And the I realized that the four of us in the room were like HALF THE PEOPLE IN THE ENTIRE UNITED STATES who would've gotten the joke.

...so I feel your pain, basically. Thank God for murderclowns, I guess is the lesson here.

I lost a week or so of my life to starting, and then furiously trying to catch up with, everything Homestuck. I look forward to the potential entertainment in store if you get sucked in. (Tavros is my fav.)

I'm very curious as to the context of the 2nd one, gotta say. Though I'll admit to having similar thoughts, so does context even matter?

Here via network, and -- things I have had occasion to say over the past few weeks:

"When I get to the end of something and then put an episode of Carnivale on because I need a little narrative transparency in my life, something is very wrong."

"And this is where we go with the idea that I am just that much of a brainwashed tool of the patriarchy --"

"There is no comeback from banging your mom!"

Sometimes I wonder what non-fans ever even talk about, you know?

IMHE at work, mundanes who watch other sorts of media have their own sorts of jokes, and not ALL of them are dull and lacking in sparkle. Most of the jokes are, though.
Especially when you know the topic, just dull. And it seems unfairly exclusive and snotty when you don't. But hey, I'll try to be fair, Sturgeon's Rule, right? Many of the famboys crack pretty bad jokes too, agreed.

Gee, now why do I want more really brilliant but totally jokes about sibilants in Indo-European languages? (Sounds like a SG1 Danial Jackson sort of joke, really.)

De-lurking to somewhat explain the first one. It comes from a truly epic (in every sense of the word) webcomic, Homestuck. It takes an extremely long time to arrive to that point (about 4000 strips), but the ride is worth it. Intricate plot, eldritch abominations, complicated and interesting characters, amazing world-building, chess, billiards, trolls (literally and the internet kind), entirely new vernacular that is amusing and clever, romance, zodiacs, time-travel, pretty much everything you could want in a story. Murderclowns and chainsaw-wielding fashionable vampires included. The link is http://www.mspaintadventures.com/ if you want to check it out (which I encourage!).

And things like this is why I love fandom, as well. :)
