ooh baby yes

Have achieved Trek. Finally. Also, matinees are fucking expensive.

will make noise about later, except for this....

I read a lot of reviews. A lot. Yet I didn't read this.

No one said Spock is a total bitch This is very important information. Information that makes me happy. I've never seen anyone, anywhere, insert the word fuck, wordlessly, silently, unmistakably, into so many sentences in my life. Totes impressive.

Kinda in love. As one does.

Wow. That was good for me. I need that again.

This Spock is a little bit ANGRY. I'm sure it upsets some TOS fans, but it was so perfect for me.

Oh hell yes. This one is awesome. I am particularly fond of the streak of vindictiveness going on there. Jeez.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2009-05-23 01:08 am (UTC)
That was beautiful. I was only surprised he did not logically decide to go after Nero with a knife. As one does when one is crazypants.

Seriously. My God. I love this Spock.

I've seen someone's icon - which I love like burning - that has the wording "set phasers to bitchface." And OH MY WORD HOW ACCURATE IT IS. Every single scene, Spock is pondering how to kill you with just his eyebrows, because you are annoying him and choking people is an illogical waste of time.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2009-05-23 01:13 am (UTC)
CRAZYPANTS SPOCK. I mean, and when Spock Prime and New Spock meet, you compare/contrast and think, yeah, this will end well for the Federation's enemies. I do not see this Spock being, y'know, a restraining influence.

The moment Spock said "Live long and prosper" like it was really "fuck off and die in a fire" was probably the moment when I started crushing hard on this movie.

The love came when McCoy looked at Kirk and said "I may throw up on you" but then, a) that has to be one of the best introduction lines ever and b) I was always a McCoy girl.

Re: trek love all over again OMG!

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2009-05-23 01:15 am (UTC)
I am totally and forever a Kirk girl (as of this movie), but I have to admit, my love is torn when Spock goes to the crazyplace of crazy. It's the eyes. They say "I am thinking of a hundred logical ways to kill you in alphabetical order using one finger and the power of my inner rage.

McCoy was freaking awesome. I just kind of wish he'd kept the beard thing. That just was perfect. WITH HIS HYPOS OF STICKINGNESS. EVERYTIME KIRK TURNED HIS BACK. *howls*

This is like the Crazy!Enterprise. Of Crazy. With so much awesome.

Being a non-Trekkie (okay, Trekkie by osmosis because I did live in an apartment with Starfleet blueprints as the only acceptable wall art), I always assumed Spock's default was zen. This Spock's default is... not zen. Zen is what he strives for because he sure as hell ain't achieving it naturally.

My military geek twitches a little at Spock and Uhura as the whole power thing, but... seriously, has het ever been such a symbol for 'up yours' as this?

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2009-05-23 02:13 am (UTC)
Yeah. Spock strives for like, Zen 101: Do Not Kill People on Sight. He's--mostly getting there. *blank* It was the contrast that just floored me when they met. It was like "So. One of these will possibly conquer the galaxy in a fit of rage. One tries to unite Romulus nad Vulcan. Guess which one?"

My love is pure and rather terrifying.

So glad you enjoyed it! I thought the movie and the cast were awesome. I just loved the way Spock telling the Vulcan Academy guys to 'Live long and prosper' sounded like 'Eat shit and die'. I adored the younger, less controlled Spock. Notice the way this Spock is more touchy/feely? How'd you like Spock and Uhura? I've seen it three times already(vacation) and I'm gonna go see it again on Monday so I'll have something good to think about when I have to go back to prison, er, work. Trust me, it only gets better with each viewing because you catch stuff you missed the first time around, like Paul McGillion.

YES!!!!!!!!

I just saw it today (and matinees DO rock!) And I am so in love - not with any one character, but with THE WHOLE MOVIE!

I feel like they took many of the best aspects of ALL the different series, and added their new twists - and gave me everything I didn't know my fannish heart desired!

For one thing - it's a time travel story. Many of my favoite eps across the series have been time travel stories. Their twist? THEY DIDN'T FIX ANYTHING!!!! There was no, "Oh, hey, it was all meant to happen this way." No one went back through the black hole and saved Romulus. No one was given the opportunity to sacrifice their own, personal, happiness in order to save the timeline.

NO.

The timeline is fucked and GONE! And while I don't think they belaboured the differences, they are HUGE. The lack of planet Vulcan, as a major federation power, will likely lead to a Federation that is more likely to seek military solutions. The fact that Spock is actually the more experienced officer - something that was not true in TOS - may seriously affect how their relationships develop.

Not to mention that Spock is apparently deeply involved with Uhura - something that could only happen because he stayed on as an instructor at the Academy instead of being assigned to serve under Captain Pike.

I have this vision of Elder Spock finding this out, and having this really painful moment as he realizes that his younger self is missing out on the deeper parts of his relationship with Kirk. - And what must it have been like to see the young Kirk he'd loved when he himself is so old, and the young Kirk remembers nothing about their shared lives.

*sigh*

And aside from the slash that not everyone will see - the fights and flights and battles and bitchiness all just ROCKED.

God - yes. It really was THAT good.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2009-05-23 02:40 am (UTC)
God, it was. *purrs* IT WAS.

Also, their totally synched walking after getting back to the Enterprise after Nero's ship? *melts* THEIR LOVE OF VIOLENCE SHOULD BE SO MUCH MORE DISTURBING THAN IT IS.
