I took a short break from Due South reading to explore--I have no idea, but I blame

sdwolfpup and

out_there for the entire fact I am reading in a fandom where my understanding of the canon is based on a vid and a horrified write-up by amireal. But no. It's worse.

In your One True Fandom (or two, mine are SGA and dS currently), it's acceptable to read the badfic. I mean, I can rationalize that to myself; it's a slow day. Fraser crying while pregnant with Dief's puppies or Rodney--well, insert a terrifying fic idea there--that's okay. It's your fandom. You may curse their names and fic, but they are yours and even the most deformed and diseased of bunnies are still, you know, family. You look at them with tolerant hate and admit you are a junkie.

I just don't have this excuse for reading bad Prison Break. Or possibly bad American Idol fic. Or really bad....never mind, just, no excuse. No reason. But there I am at two in the morning reading Part X of Five Billion Badfic and just hating myself so much while I click Part Next. It's so sad.

Wii

Since I have the Wii and the Wii Fit, I started research to find what else I will need--er, Child will need--so as to have a satisfying gaming experience. And I found there are Wii Zapper and Wii light sabres (LIGHT SABRES! OMG! SAY IT! WII LIGHTSABRES!) and Nerf sports stuff and and Wii Surgery Kit and WiiCooking Kit. Click on links. Because wow.

So this begs the question when I saw my list was officially Way More Than I Can Afford....

Be honest. Is there a Wii Sex Toy? Because basically, that is all that is missing here.

Also, for those with Wiis, what are the necessities? I started a list, but I'd like to know what I really need and what I probably won't or don't need immediately.

As far as piracy is concerned, the Wii's already got a software-based mod that allows the playing of "backups". If you want it, I can probably get my boyfriend to tell me the version he's using and stuff, and how to find it. The games themselves can probably be found off Bittorrent, and I know there are groups that'll split up the files (which are fucking huge) and upload them to megaupload/rapidshare.

No Wii sex toy, but there IS a hack that lets you turn your Wiimote into a vibrator. Does that count?

I am relieved to know this. It's been two years. Even the ipod has sex toy attachments now.

If you don't yet have a second controller, the Wii Play is a good deal (controller (both the main one and the nunchuk) + a disc of mini games for about the same price or less than buying the both parts of the controller separately).

My son works at Gamestop, and as a person who sells games for a living (and due to the fact that you already have wii-fit), he highly recommends Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party. You can't really beat tobogganing down a mountain on a deer, controlling it with your butt on the wiibalance board.

*beams* I'll happily accept whatever blame is mine. And, really, when considering badfic I think you might need to consider how ... divorced from reality the original canon storylines can be. (Although, huh, you know what? Both DS and SGA win on "divorced from reality" storylines. Their crack was virtually canon.)

My favorite part of the Wii is making all the Miis -- I have made most of the characters from SGA and some from SG1. When in fit mode, it's fun to do the run and have Rodney or Woolsey jog by (occasionally falling down) or playing baseball and having my team made up of all SGA people. :)

Those Light Sabers are complete crap. Cheap plastic the naked Wiimotes can hardly fit into and you can't even really cross sabers with any hint of force because they bend. And you have to take the Wiimote in and out of the holster in order to access the menu. AND! You have to have it connected to the nunchuck, so take the geek image of Wii Light Sabers and amplify it with the realization that you hold the light saber in one hand and a little nunchuck connected with a cord to the other. They don't even make the sound!

Fail.

So I kinda wanted a Wii before but now I'm all ::need, need, NEED::

Wii Sports and Guitar Hero are indeed, awesome. I am also advised to recommend Super Monkey Ball, Animal Crossing and Super Smash Brothers (a game pushed upon my roommate by the world's most earnest Video Game Store Dude, who was all SERIOUSLY, THE ONLY GAME YOU WILL EVER NEED and who might just be right about that) and World of Goo.

I feel compelled to also share the hard-earned wisdom that I share with all new Wii owners: move the wine glasses off the coffee table before playing. It seems obvious. And yet.

Well, I can't google "wii sex toy" from work, but I am happy just to know that the lightsabers are called thrustmaster, for heaven's sakes.

YES EXACTLY! It's a shame PB has so much badfic, but I'm kinda glad SD and out_there are pushing for a fannish revival, because we've been getting some awesome PB stories recently. \o/

I'd love to know what you like best for the Wii; my husband and I just got ours (supposed to be a wedding present, just had our first anniversary, etc.), and I went old-game-downloading crazy because I got 6 games for $50 on WiiShop, as opposed to ONE new Wii game in stores (*sigh*), but someday we'll have money and buy new spangly games.

Nyko recharge stand. Third thing to buy after buying the Wii and the mote/nunchuk. Because the wiimotes will eat batteries like no tomorrow. You may also be interested in buying some wii points if you want to download old school games or new school games on the Wii.
