this is due to me being all grumpy and everything, isn't it?
....my mother and my grandmother--my mother and my grandmother--ship John Lennon and Paul McCartney. They did it back when they were watching it happen. My nephew is trying to sing We Can Work It Out and he's not getting the words but he's got the melody line down.
My mother today in a perfectly ordinary car on the way to the pharmacy sighed and talked about their meant-to-be'ness.
My life, what is this, how is this, what?
*lies down*
Two more days of work. Two more days and I am free like the wind, or at least, more free, less homicidal. When this is over, oh man there will be an entry on my rage. Oh the rage. And the entry.

From:I can see that. Sometimes the way Lennon would look and McCartney would seem absolutely besotted. I mentioned this to my Mother which ended in an argument and her basically yelling "QUIT SULLYING MY CHILDHOOD!"
I apologized, and then mentioned how nice it was that Sesame Street had a long term gay couple on the show (Bert & Ernie). Mom was speechless, especially when Dad popped up with his theory on Big Bird & Mr. Snuffalupagus's "special friendship".
Yeah, the nut didn't fall very far from the tree in my family.

From:Seriously. Of course even as a small child my slash goggles were firmly in place and tended to color everything I watched. My Mother was quite frankly appalled and still cringes whenever I mention that a pair of cute guys in a movie or TV show would make a cute couple. Mostly it's the generation that she is from so I try not to hold it against her. I'm not above using it to make her head explode a little though.

From:...okay, how does that even--Bert and Ernie have been married for years.

From:Mom likes to live in denial. If you ask her she will say that the only gay person she can remember seeing on TV is Mr. Rogers. I never really cared for his show (even as a small child I hated to be talked down to, and he did that a lot), but because I knew my Mother hated Mr. Rogers Neighborhood I used to make her watch it with me. I was kind of evil when I was 3.
I wonder if I could casually bring that up to her, then while talking about all the puppets on his show I could bring up plushies and the possible connection there. Okay, so I'm still kind of evil.

From:Had you not realised Beatles fandom is a) somewhat crazy and b) EVERYWHERE? Beatles fandom is, seriously, like. One of the most mainstream-appeal, high-profile fandoms out there; Beatles fen are everywhere, across every generation.
RPF fandom, not really much of a shock if you ever look at the history of modern rock.

From:They get all wacko big-haired and churchy about it and start talking about eugenics and next thing you know-- they're admitting they really wondered about Little Richard, too.
