del.icio.us

Before I snap and do something I might eventually end up somewhat regretting, is anyone else having bizarre problems with del.icio.us?

No? What kind of problems are you having?

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 05:59 pm (UTC)
Posting to it, editing what is already there. It's getting *Frustrating*.

Did you re-start your browser?

From: [identity profile] spike21.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 05:54 pm (UTC)
I have always had bizarre problems with del.icio.us -- basically it crashes my browser. I'd just assumed that it was becasue I'm from Canada.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:00 pm (UTC)
*frown* Okay, that's odd. I thought del.icio.us was easily crossed with anything people used. Hmm.

From: [identity profile] spike21.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:27 pm (UTC)
I don't know if it's Opera it doesn't like -- I've never heard anyone else complain about it.

Yeah, me too. That is that my browser tells me every now and then that a script on the page is not responding, and I can choose to stop it manually. At first I thought it was maybe a matter of using Firefox extensions for del.icio.us and disabled all, but the site still froze on me. I thought it maybe disliked Linux...

Yeah, the other day none of my new bundles showed up for over twenty-four hours. Also, things in my network tend to appear and disappear whenever I refresh.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:00 pm (UTC)
That happens to me pretty much all the time. Plus, erasing something I just edited or not showing new tags for a few days, even though they are *there*.

Yup yup. I have that stuff happen a lot, too. It makes me bugfuck.

What kind of problems? We had trouble with the automated posts lately.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:01 pm (UTC)
Trying to post to it gtes me an error, then eventually, it'll suddenly show up. If I try to edit it, del.icio.us erases it.

SEriously. Thsi is frsutrating.

I can imagine! It seems to be working normally for me at the moment, thank God. I remember back when the tags all disappeared - that drove me insane!

OH MY GOD it's horrible. I didn't realize how much I need del.icio.us.

Mine seems to be a happy camper, but all I've done today is access it and add and delete a couple of links.

I lost the related links box a year ago and haven't been able to figure out how to get it back. But other than that, it's working OK for me reading someone else's list.

From: [identity profile] etui.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:05 pm (UTC)
Yeah. :( It's made it next to worthless as a tool for searching out fics, so I don't go there much anymore.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:07 pm (UTC)
Did you try contacting support? [livejournal.com profile] voland444 below seemed to have gotten something vaguely similar fixed.

From: [identity profile] apetslife.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:02 pm (UTC)
I can't edit things once I've posted, almost EVER. But that's been going on since I got my delicious account, so I just figured it was one of those things. "It's a feature, not a bug!" Yeah, whatever. I just have to remind myself to be extra careful about tags and such and proofread everything twice before hitting 'post.' GRRRRR. Other than that, though, it seems to be working fine for me today.

...I would seriously be unable to use it. I spend mot of my time with it editing it.

God. *blanklook*

Oddly enough, it'll usually let me delete a link, and then repost it, if I make a mistake in the summary or tag list that's seriously bothering me. But yeah, it's annoying as HELL. I definitely have learned not to use it as a "to read"-->"have already read" tracking system, since the lack of editing capability makes that pretty difficult.

I've never had tags disappear, or any other problems, though! It's just that one thing, which I can live with, since I never really got used to being able to edit anyway. *grin* And it still seems to be the best way to find fic I've seen out there, so I really can't abandon it.

Have you tried using one of the Firefox del.icio.us extensions for editing your bookmarks? I find that much more comfortable, because I won't have to interact with their interface to edit, and tag suggestion/completition works and such.

From: [identity profile] apetslife.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 06:56 pm (UTC)
I actually don't use Firefox...I'm an Opera girl! Firefox crashed my computer seven times in a row when I first tried using it and I haven't tried it since. But that looks very cool. And if it helps with that whole editing problem, that is just AWESOME.

I know what you mean with Firefox. When I tried updating to 2.0 from 1.5 it would crash whenever I tried to save a page (only on my laptop though, it would work on my desktop). Quite unusable. I even sent in one of these automatic bug reports, hoping it might get fixed, but with every update the problem persisted, so I'm still stuck with 1.5. I hope the next major version will work again for me.

there's a known bug with inline editing in opera - it doesn't work. the best workaround is to click "edit" and then click "full-screen edit", where you can make changes that will be successfully saved.

Well,my list of tags disappeared once.
Yes,the tags on the right side of page...it just disappeared...until I send message to http://del.icio.us/help/support
And my related tags didn't work for a long time~

I have that problem with the related tags box. It disappeared over a year ago for me. How did you get them back? I don't have a delicious account, so I didn't contact support figuring the problem must be in my cookies or something (although I tried deleting the delicious cookies and it didn't work), but if it will fix this...

I thought they changed the system somehow, so that related tags only show up when you browse a specific account. I mean, I vaguely remember that it used to show you related tags even when you browsed a tag in the "all" listing, but then it only showed me related tags among my own or whoever's bookmarks I'm browsing. Or are those missing as well for you?
ext_2559: (Default)

From: [identity profile] etui.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-01 07:14 pm (UTC)
I am browsing a specific account. I used to use ultimateficarchiver's McKay/Sheppard list to look for fics. But now all the related tags are missing (I don't get the box at all, in either Firefox or IE), and any time I click on a different tag I'm no longer looking at just McKay/Sheppard, so I stopped going there. It was pretty useless for my purposes. I just tried seperis' account and yours, and still got the same result, so it's not just that account. I originally thought it must have been something I did, but I searched the FAQ and the help and couldn't find anything to tell me what it was. I've contacted support finally. Maybe they'll be able to tell me why I lost them and I can get them back.

Had written all this, and then I went back to your list and clicked on an author, and got the related tags box back. Unfortunately still doesn't work for ultimateficarchiver, even when I click on McKay/Sheppard pairing in that tag list (which was basically what I had bookmarked), or on an author there. Maybe there are just too many tags or something. Thanks! A glimmer of hope. Maybe I'll just switch to using your McKay/Sheppard list instead, if support can't help me.

You know, with that account the related doesn't work for me either. I guess it could be that there are too many bookmarked sites or tags. That is actually kind of terrifying, that you can break their algorithms like that. *clutches her bookmarks and tags*

When I try to browse to it all I get is a blank page :(
