glee

I love my job.

Coworker: You look bored.
Me: There's nothing to do until the next build.
Coworker: Want a login to Unix?
Me: ....really?
Coworker: *magic* Done. Have fun! Google for instructions!
Me: ....wow.

Seriously.

I have no idea what to do with this. Yet I am pleased.

I'm so, so sorry but -- you are so incredibly cute I don't even have the words.

Isn't she though? *ruffles her hair*

...is that code for how sad or give her cookies?

I'm really easy. All I want in the world now is Data control access to the Oracle database so I can play with the SQL and then, then my life will be complete.

Cookies and ruffled hair? Maybe pinched cheeks. I've always been inappropriately fond of pinched cheeks.

Just be sure to use you powers only for good, young padawan.

Hee! I love Unix, but I approach with great caution. I had a friend once accidentally start reformatting the drive... and Unix will let you if you have permissions. Yikes.

Hee! You could work for my company. They gave me a UNIX logon, set me up with special permissions (OMG) and then turned me loose. Like you, I wound up Googling to find lists of commands.

It's an oddly comforting interface though, reminding me of the old C: prompt DOS days, when you did everything by typing in commands one line at a time.

Many years ago, I began learning systems administration when my then-boyfriend gave me root access on his Linux machine.

Reader, I married him.

Heehee! Try "top." That's a fun one. Although you might want to learn about kill first.

Unix FTW. What OS are you using? Once you get the hang of a bit of command-line fu, it's helluva fun to try writing tiiiiny scripts in perl. Which is the best scripting or anything language ever, and funfunfun to learn =)

Believe it or not, when they were trying to teach my first-year grad school class about scripting, they made us use Awk.

Awk. Srsly. In 1999.

Unix is fun. Just don't rm -rf anything important.
