Okay, this entry was originally written at three-fourish CST. Could not post. Bitter. But I'd finished it, so might as well post it. A couple of things added, as flist is being less cagey.

Okay, my comments are coming in at five to nine hours late and I can't seem to answer them or check my flist with any consistency. If any of this has already been said, my apologies.

I'm going to be in and out of lj for a few days, so if I don't answer comments for a bit, please don't take it personally. It's RL stuff and I think I burned out all my distractions from it.

Quick update while LJ is still letting me post:

1.) [livejournal.com profile] anatsuno said:

as for counting communities, a friend of mine suggested that we add the interest "fandomcommscount" or something like that to the interests of all our comms. Then the infamous interests search engine that landed us here in the first place could give us a good idea of how many comms we own... what do you say?

I agree. As many have stated, the one I remember being [livejournal.com profile] mina_de_malfois, may she continue to forever write and entertain the heck out of me, a wake-up call, yes, but also I think for many of us, a revelation. In theory, we knew there were a lot of us, but we don't exactly interact with the entirety of fandom itself.

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts currently stands at 27,859 user accounts. And that still isn't all of our accounts and doesn't include our communities.

So let's count them like this.

2.) [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies is back!

3.) From [livejournal.com profile] news"

Journals being restored

As promised below we have reviewed the journals that have been suspended and are now in the midst of unsuspended about half of them.
The class of suspensions that are being reversed are;
1. All Fandom journals
2. All fiction journals
3. All journals who that had problems in their profile only

A large number of journals that are clear violations of our policies will remain suspended.

I will write a post in more detail soon but I wanted to get this up now as promised.
We are truly sorry for the mess, we have more work yet to do.

Awesome.

4.) From me, sending support to the fen who also work for lj and who got caught up in the middle of this mess. It must have sucked for you immensely and I hope you're never in this kind of situation again.

5.) For all further Strikethrough 2007 information, [livejournal.com profile] catrinella is the place to be. Check here.

And that's--possibly the end of Strikethrough 2007. Please return to your regularly scheduled porn. Of which I hope there is much, and that it is celebratory. [livejournal.com profile] tropes mentioned telephone sex. We should strive for new achievements in this worthy genre. (Is this a genre?)

Seriously. Let's try for seven days without a fannish--thing. I mean, all this unity and outpouring of affection is great but extremely creepy. Plz to be returning to usual bitter flamewars and vicious infighting now? I think we will all breathe easier.

Seriously. I got teary when I saw someone criticizing slash on FFR. You go little anti-slasher! You just fight the good fight.

(and yes, I got a full hour of sleep this evening that *killed* my ability to sleep now. i think i see bunnies. i'm fairly sure they are not mine. or in fact, real. vive la hallucinations)

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] svmadelyn is home. If anyone wants me, I will be in a yahoo chat box, telling her that sbandoning me to die was wrong, wrong, wrong.

Welcome home. *g*

The fandom comms interest idea is brilliant. :)

Then the infamous interests search engine that landed us here in the first place could give us a good idea of how many comms we own... what do you say?

That might be a good way to get communities showing up, too - I bet the numbers would escalate hugely from the 20-odd thousand we already have (nealy 30-odd thousand). I do wonder how many already have fandom in their user profiles, but checking atm might be a bust - I know a lot of people erased all their interests when the deletions were happening.

Just as a reminder to myself and others, I also included 'strikethrough 2007' in my interests.

Just as a point of interest, as of 2 minutes ago on the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts community, fandom LJ's represent this much of LJ (not counting comms of course, and including all LJs including those that are defunct):

Come on, people! We all know we have a much bigger influence on LJ than that!

See, but I really don't think the 13 M should be counted like that. Clearly every one of the nearly 30K has been on LJ within the last 48 HOURS!!!

Just look at the number of journals who've never been updated, who havent' been updated in years, etc.

I'd really like to see the paid journal tally (which would be much lower, b/c I know many of us have multiple journals and often only one paid one), but I think the ratio might be more impressive!

The 13 million is a rough number anyway, that's clear. Someone mentioned the number 4 million for the number of journals that are defunct, but I have no idea how to verify that, so they were included in the account (that's what I meant by defunct by realise it's not very clear). And, obviously, the [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts tally doesn't include communities, because communities can't be members of other communities. Also, it will contiue to grow as word spreads and people who haven't been online add their voices. This is in no way the final tally of fandom journals.

I'd really like to see the paid journal tally (which would be much lower, b/c I know many of us have multiple journals and often only one paid one), but I think the ratio might be more impressive!

I agree it would be interesting to see, but I don't think it would necessarily be indicative of fandom - many fen I know have only one account, unpaid and many others may have multiple, unpaid accounts. It would definitely be interesting from an economic perspective - how many paid accounts and paid communities (not to mention storage space, virtual gifts and extra userpics) does fandom control? How much money do we give to lj? That's certainly an avenue that would interest them more than just the PR effects of this whole fiasco.

According to Livejournal statistics (http://www.livejournal.com/stats.bml), of those 13,000,000 only 1,785,562 are actually in use. I was interested, so I checked up on it. *g* Yay statistics!

Thanks for the link, I didn't know they had that stuff up (I was wondering where I would find that stuff but had no idea where to look). I would like to know how they define 'active in some way' - I know people who use LJ purely for reading and so their journals would be listed as 'inactive' when they are at the very least reading fandom.

Still not counting comms of course and using latest count from [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts, this puts the fandom users currently at about 1.7 percent of lj's usage.

I *think*--and this was from stuff I saw ages ago (years, not weeks or months) that "active in some way" means "has logged in in the past X amount of time," or something similar.

They also give the figure of about 8.2 million journals that have *ever* been updated. Even a lot of the reading journals have a post that says, "If I friended you, don't freak out, this is just a reading journal."

Put "fandomcommscount" in the interests for all my comms.

Total now up to 55 (as of 5 minutes ago).

According to LJ's FAQ (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=60&view=full#searching), max. 500 comms will show up on a search.
