Gratuitious promo post, because the idea is so *cool*.

From [livejournal.com profile] thecaelum's lj entry:

I am delighted to announce that my two community projects are ready for new members. I've been working on them for a few weeks now, and they are all shiny and new and ready to go!

[livejournal.com profile] canon_sidekicks - Discussion, reviews, and recommendations for tie-in novels. This is the place to go if you'd like to find out what tie-in novels are available for your fandom, and what other fans thought of them. The summary data for a few fandoms are still pending, but those will all be updated by September 9th. If you'd like to contribute, see this post for more information. Both lurkers and active members are welcome!

Sampling of fandoms to be represented:

Alias, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, DC Comics, Doctor Who, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, Queer As Folk (US), Rome, Serenity, Smallville, Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate: Atlantis, and Stargate: SG-1.

[livejournal.com profile] social_meta - Discussions about social structures, rules, and behaviors in fandom. This one will be interesting, and I have very high hopes for it. I think people should question these things far more often than they actually do, and if you feel the same way, then this is the community for you. As with the above community, both lurkers and active members are welcome.

Drop by, take a look, and join if either of them interests you! Also, feel free to pimp them. I'm not entirely sure how and where to promote them, as I am not a fan of promoting a community in someone else's community if said community is not geared toward promotion. Any ideas? Tell me about them in comments. I'd appreciate that.

*****

Anyway. Go, check out, amuse yourself. I'm *really* fond of the first community especially--a fairly reliable fan source of tie-in novel recs and discussion would be excellent.

Ooh, those are both comms that sound like they could be really great

*joins both*

I agree with you on the need for a reliable source of recs and discussion of tie-in novels. SGA is the first fandom I've been heavily involved in that has them and with the exception of Martha's book, I've been really wary of picking them up.

'Tis a pity I'm too long out of Trek and Buffy to be able to remember much of note about the tie-in novels I read of both (aside from the generalized "anything Peter David wrote" for Trek, and maybe recs for one or two others). Also 'tis a pity there's nothing up for Who yet but the actual booklists, since I'm just now embarking upon the process of familiarizing myself with certain segments of the vast book library (what with the Eighth Doctor having had only one onscreen outing and thus fans being forced to check out the books and audio dramas for more of him). I may nudge someone I know who's a Who fan and up on the reading, though -- at least point the community out to her.
