I figured I could get the mockery over with early.

I bought Child a Leopard Geeko.

svmadelyn was restraining herself last night, but I was also feeling weird and dizzy--hey, new information; dehydration makes you feel disconnected. I so did not know that. I'm guessing my grace period will end now.

Okay, but this is *different*. I went to Zookeeper with Vannezsa because they have a two-toed sloth--no, not kidding, if you live near Austin, you've *seen* this thing, in the window, along with a massive iguana. On the other side is a snake large enough to eat me. Anyway. It was still open, so we went in, breathing in the scent of reptiles, and my tolerance for snakes is still hideously low, but for things with arms and legs, *much better*.

We marveled at teh frilled lizard, the tiny oh my God how adorable bearded dragons--just came out of the incubator!--and precious chameleons, and this thing that looks like it belongs on teh cover of National Geographic. The terribly young (read: late teens, early twenties) guy who worked there wandered over to watch me twitch at the legless lizard, and we talked about the Mali U-something that you will see me refer to as Unix that I want to get Child. We chatted about breeding bearded dragons and malis--and it scares me, how much I could follow this conversation--and I asked how often they got baby Malis. Apparently, they are not easy to breed. Anyway, I asked about other age appropriate lizards for children, since I had promised Child that he could get one more, and I met the Leopard Gekko.

Oh. Oh. I wish I could express how just freakishly adorable this thing is, but he just is. We have an empty fish tank I'm going to remodel into a gekko home for him tomorrow, but he's just--pretty colors. I didn't even mind when he crawled on my hand. He looks so *smart*. God, you know you're screwed when you're cooing at the reptile on your hand, especially since the view of your son's bearded dragon can still skyrocket your blood pressure.

Anyway. There you have it. We are a four rabbit, two lizard family. I really don't have words.

Other animmals viewed: Many Large Snakes. Many Small Narrow Snakes. Many Long Snakes. One Massive Huge Yellow Snake With a Head As Large As My Hand. While visiting the bunny bin, Large Snake I Had to Be Led Away From While Breathing Steadily. One Mongoose--he kind of looked like a really pretty cross between a tiny cheetah and a really slinky ferret. An adorable set of turtles.

So. Go ahead. Mock away. Yes yes yes. But God. So cute.

Lizards, gekkos especially, are terribly cute. At least I think so. I think snakes are beautiful, but I see no need to have them as pets.

What is this gekko to be called?

I named him Jason, but Child may try to overrule me. *sighs* He *looks* like a Jason.

Jenn, Queen of the Furry and the Scaley. I'm sure very soon we will see a post where you announce that you are now the owner of the large snake which you had to be Led Away From today, since all your pets seem to be ones that you previously had an aversion to.

God, you did not see these snakes! They were *huge*! Universe eating huge!

bwa! my nephews had leopard geckos! do you have that red night lamp for their case? y'know, the one that makes the room glow like the Anti Christ's bedroom? homg imagine climbing the staircase after midnight into a hallway that ends with a red-glowing bedroom.

ooh, yes. that's exactly what it's like. ...now I'm glad the geckos are dead and there's no more lamp. in daylight, they're smart. under that lamp, they're like reptilian Brains. so spooky.

My son has a leopard gecko as well. They're remarkably personable for lizards. His aquarium is actually on the corner of my desk. He's really quite entertaining.

They really *are*. And I didn't expect that at all. He's *cute*. And he *looks at me*. Frankly, he seems nicer than the rabibts.

I will not mock. I am impressed that you can find a lizard cute, in fact, after the posts of a few months ago.

It's kind of aweing that my tolerance has fixed *this much*.

oooooh. *grabby hands* Love Leopards! After my Anole died a few years ago I considered springing for one, but I put it off.

Where is this Zookeeper around Austin? I'm there all the time. Austin, that is - I'm always up for some good sightseeing.

I haven't been there in a while. Seems pointless when I have 2 cats and most everything in there that won't eat them is prey + toy and I went through that as a kid when I had gerbils *and* cats. *facepalm*

I miss geckos. I always liked seeing them around the front door, because I assumed they ate those giant cockroaches that live in the trees. *shudder* Also, they're cute.

I didn't realize you live in Austin, that's cool. I grew up in Waco and then lived in Austin for eight years (did the UT thing, then decided to stay, as was my master plan all along, lol), until we moved overseas. I loooooooved it, I'd move back in a heartbeat if I thought I could afford it anymore. :-)

Hmm. March or April, I think? I adopted a very beautiful carmel one named Mr. Waffles who also bit me. *g* He's the nicest of the group, sadly.

My brother had a leopard gecko. It used to try and bite me and me alone. Not sure why. Two things I learned about them while my brother had her: 1) make sure that your substrate is sufficently rough enough to remove shed skin from around their toes because otherwise the shed skin cuts off the circulation to the toes and the toes fall off :( and 2) which you may already know, escaped crickets are the devil. They will get behind the heaviest pieces of non-moveable furniture adn then start churping. At 3 am.

God. The *crickets*. I *know*. *shudders* they just--chirp. *constantly*

See, I'm not mocking because at least it's not another rabbit.

But how on earth can you be scared of a bearded dragon? They're so soft and sweet! Mine pouts if I don't take him out of the cage everyday to play with him or cuddle.

He's a sweetie--but he's a *lizard*. It's very instinctive. But I can breathe aroudn him! That is a Great Stride. Trust me on this. When we first got him, I could barely stay in the same room.

I'll give you a bye then, especially considering your cooing over the babies. Give you a year, and you'll be breeding them yourself. *grin* And may I say, you must be a very dedicated parent to allow your child two of a pet that terrifies/d you?
