svfic: rising

This is about--er, four years old, and I'm kind of surprised I forgot about it for so long. Completed and preread and checked to see if it fits with the current storyline, which weirdly, it does.

This is Lex before Somewhere I Have Never Traveled, before Clark and shared homes and a presidency, before winning and losing, and before hope.

Title: Rising
Author: jenn
Codes: Lex, Cassius
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Prequel to Somewhere I Have Never Traveled. This is when he flips the light back on.
Author Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] amireal, [livejournal.com profile] thecaelum, and [livejournal.com profile] justabi for the final read-through.

I've come to the conclusion that the best measurement of just how boring one's job is can correlate directly to exactly how often one hits refresh on the cnn website. And yahoo. And msn. And perhaps one is now opening up politico, because one has read every freaking article on the formers.

So for those of you with fulfilling jobs, the winner for today's When Life Imitates Big Budget Movies.

Winner for Watched Way Too Much Godfather During His Formative Years, Man arrested in Minn. dog beheading

I am now reading Politico's Shenanigans. God help my soul.
UFO'S IN FRANCE

Actually, I'm linking that because I kind of liked this quote and you kinda need context for something like this.

Patenet's* answer to questions about evidence of life beyond Earth was sure to inflame the suspicions of those convinced the government is holding back: "We do not have the least proof that extra-terrestrials are behind the unexplained phenomena."

But then he added: "Nor do we have the least proof that they aren't."

*Jacques Patenet, the aeronautical engineer who heads the office for the study of "non-identified aerospatial phenomena."

Annnnd.

Here is where you can see the French X-Files. X-Philes? But for real!

ETA: That address isn't working. Hmm. Darn it. Though frankly, I can't read french. But you know, I have an afternoon, I'm bored, and I'll be fielding calls from incredibly annoying people. Surely I can learn French in four hours.

Hey, if it comes up? Report here so I, too, can boggle at foreign aliens. Sort of.

THEY ARE AMONG US!

Continuing my efforts to bring you French aliens via http://www.cnes.geipan.fr, I continued refreshing throughout the afternoon.

(I had very little to do.)

(Also personalized a google homepage for self; thank you [livejournal.com profile] shusu for pointing it out!)

(Also discussed the possibility of humans actually being Ascended beings with coworker; this is far more disturbing when you consider he's neither a sci-fi nor Atlantis fan)

Frustration mounting, I started to think of ways to trick it. I'd enter a yahoo address, then, before it finished loading, quickly pasted the correct address and hit enter. The French goverment, wise to the ways of cut and paste, continued to pretend it did not exist.

Slowly but surely, the internet bowed to my will. While pretending to search for real estate, I quickly pasted in the address and my sneakiness worked! Worked!

I got this.

Redirection vers le site du GEIPAN

I AM STARING AT A PAGE IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE! I SHALL USE MY NINJA-SPANISH TO WORK OUT WHERE THE ALIENS ARE!

STAY TUNED!
