elves gone rogue
Open Note to DW
In view of yesterday's--events?--thank you for continuing fantastic server performance. Considering right now that every page without custom comments in LJ is causing me loading problems, posting problems, and doing anything at all problems, there's a level of pathetic gratitude that I can hit reply on DW and it works.
LJ Users
The fail-fandomanon comm has what appears to be an (almost) perfect copy of the old style comment page on LJ. Does anyone know if the mod is friendly and will share code? I couldn't find it in the threads, but I'm almost sure I saw it there. I did a fast and dirty switch to a layout I can live with (sort of), but ff_a's comment page is precisely what I want.
Trailers
I have feelings on The Hobbit and Batman trailers. I mean, in theory, you can only rewatch them so many times before boredom ensues, and yet, not bored yet. So much want.
Also, is series two Sherlock premiering on 1/1/2012 or is that a vicious, terrible rumor that will break my heart when it doesn't happen? Tell me this is true. This is very relevant to my interests.
ETA: Sherlock Series 2 on 1/1/2012 is confirmed in comments by
norabombay and
apetslife! Now going to quietly squee in my cubicle, as people get very uncomfortable when I do it too loudly even if I explain why. Real Life = very strange sometimes.

From:YEs, there is Sherlock coming. Think of the porn people. Think of the porn. Because right now the fandom is reduced to writing John/Mycroft MPREG, which really, cannot possibly be a good idea.

While the child is probably in for decades of therapy, at least it will be able to afford it.
Mycroft/John is just so. WRONG.

From:I'm also not fond of Mycroft/Lestrade, as it always seems like it's Mycroft fucking the help. Like, Lestrade is essentially his brother's nanny in this relationship....

From:It's more that people in Mycroft's position shouldn't have sex with the help. It's tacky. It's just not done.
And the Mycroft/Lestrade pairing feels like that. I suspect this is an area where you would get very different stories out of American and UK authors...

From:But could he really direct the actions of say a reality TV producer? Or a university administrator in the same way?
It's the 'sherlock's nanny' part that makes it weird, because in that capacity, Mycroft is directly bossing about, instead of from a disatance.

From:Nanny is just another word for well-paid spy, and we saw for certain that Mycroft is okay with that.
But, really, in the end my only true complaint with M/J or M/L is that I think Mycroft would look terrible in a tux. There. I said it.)

John finds himself knocked up with MyCroft's kid.
It. It. I was just BOGGLED. Especially the bit at the end where Mycroft is super enthused and already plotting the education of the child.
John is flipping out because you can't have a baby living with Sherlock, especially if it's not Sherlock's baby. And living with Mycroft is just as awful.
Meanwhile, I'm thinking- wouldn't that be a really high risk pregnancy? John is not young.
Mycroft/John is just one of those things that is AMAZINGLY awful, unless it is some sort of creepy dirty bad wrong situation.

From:People always forget that, too. Have they never heard of the risks of gestational diabetes? Pre-eclaympsia? Gah. At John's age, it's dangerous.

From:Add in whatever unknown lingering effects there are from the war injuries, and ugh. He'd be in the high risk OB's office instantly. And I can't imagine the various genetic tests they would want to run.

From:PBS appears to have rescheduled their air dates for Sherlock to be closer to the BBC premiere as of today too: January 15, 22 & 29, 2012 at 10pm
No announcement from them via tweet though, which I find strange.
ETA: Further investigation suggests that it's just a rebroadcast of series 1. Disregard!
But more importantly, have you seen all the new clips yet? They are incredible. Fandom can barely contain itself.

From:*pulls face* I want to be happy about this, but I'm kind of not. Mostly because at that time, I'll be on a cruise, floating about the ocean and probably won't have access to download it right away.
(And a little because the only thing I've really written this year is a Sherlock post-s1 story of 25k words and it won't be beta'd and posted until mid-late Jan. But I'd get over my own ego if I didn't know I'd be waiting two weeks to see the new episodes.)
