I am in a re-reading place.

About once every year or two years, there are certain books/series/authors I have to re-read. I tend to enjoy most books that have a lot to work with and even better, ones that stand up to multiple readings. Even more importantly--and therefore rarer--ones that benefit from re-reading; things in early books seen again come together in new ways, and I like to see all the pieces that I didn't realize were important come together and how they started or bits I missed earlier

The length of time between really depends on the combination of mood + length; Goblin Emperor, for example, is a fast read, so every nine months roughly; Masters of Rome series by Colleen McCullough is every eighteen months to two years; Temeraire series by Naomi Novak is nine months to eighteen months in general. Which is where I am now, somewhat ahead of schedule, but in my defense, it was just kind of there on my kindle and I always get like this when recently exposed to Regency Romance.

Currently just got through the first three again and anticipating my next favorite, the Tswana. Having said that....

Ooh, this is exciting; I can ask for recs again!

Anyone have recs for Temeraire fic? I read some of it years ago when I first finished the series but Temeraire benefits hugely from re-reading for missed detail and connections and I am so in the mood.

I haven't reread Masters of Rome in absolutely ages, I really should.

I hope you get good recs for Temeraire.

If you enjoy Laurence/Tharkay, I definitely recommend Gelfling's series Off the Map - lovely slow-build, and Laurence being torn about the right thing to do. :D

YES. A Monstrous Regiment by [ profile] amarguerite is novel-length Temeraire/Pride and Prejudice fic -- starring Austen characters, mostly, but it's kind of shockingly fantastic. Margz knows her shit; I can't rec it highly enough.

[ profile] WerewolvesAreReal writes fantastic Temeraire fic. I'm particularly fond of their Pirate King Laurence stories and Reckless Captain, the one where the dragons are human and vice versa, and All the Oceans, the one where Temeraire is a Japanese water-spitter (WIP), and also The English Suffrage Association for Perscitia and revelry for Laurence/Granby/Tharky/Little and Animal Husbandry for Laurence what is your life even, and several more.

If WIPs are fine, I also really like Black Wings, Black Sails by [ profile] the_glow_worm, where Laurence goes back to the navy and a lot happens and there is a lot of great angst, and some fun politics.

From Yuletide this year I really liked Memories of Unreal Things, Blood of Tyrants with magical healing cock, and The Christmas Present.

I'll second these and particularly recommend Animal Husbandry. It might be my favorite Temeraire fic, the dragons discover the power of collective bargaining and use it to reform england.

*eagerly awaiting recs for Temeraire fics* :D

Also I desperately need to reread the first few books/finish reading the series for pete's sake it's only been on my Kindle for like 5 years. But I am currently in the beginning stages of a Narnia reread, and then after that I want to reread the Swallows and Amazons series and THEN I need to do a Diana Wynne Jones book reread and then, finally, probably, Temeraire.

If you like crossover's at all I recommend esama's Island of Fire series. It's premise is that it's an oral history of Harry Potter characters in the wake of being stranded in Temeraire universe.
