Clouds of Witness - very mild spoiler below.
I am so relieved for poor Mrs. Grimethorpe. I've been extremely worried we'd leave her in that goddamn bog with her husband (who should have met a bog a while back) but WHEEE SHE'S FREE AND BUYING BLACK AND LIKE WHATEVS DUKE-MAN I AM GOING HOME TO CORNWALL. Girl, do it in a post-chaise and four with matching bays, you deserve it.
Happy. So happy.
Also: adding belle à se suicider to femme fatale because French.
Startling Unnatural Death tomorrow and checking my budget for books for the month because I am charmed.

From:I can't remember where I read this, but DLS apparently had to be persuaded by her publishers to include the translation of Simone's letter - I believe that she was adamant that her readers wouldn't (or shouldn't?) need one! Fortunately for those of us who didn't study French, the publishers won. There's still plenty of untranslated French bits in her other books, but at least those are usually just a few lines and don't contain crucial resolutions of the plot!
