it's hard to believe it's been ten years already! as a (mostly inactive) member of FW (pretty much since its inception on LJ), I am eager, EAGER, I tell you, to revisit the glories. I figure I don't actually have plans for the weekend, so what could be better than spending it on the couch, reading and remembering the fun

I even made a good meatspace fannish friend through the VB wank (who lived locally during the initial wank) and when we discovered we lived relatively near each other, as well as zie, we bonded over our need to build a fort against the crazy.

Oh, Fandom Wank, how I love thee. Last year, I wasn't on DW much for several months due to horrific headaches and brain fog but I spent a good deal of that time reading up on old HP wank. I'd heard about Snapewives and Harmonians but reading the old wanks gave me the wonderful reassurance that no matter how stupid and bleary I was feeling at the time, I had never been that stupid.

I am now reading 'his wife? a horse' and trying not to shriek in horror.

That would be about right, because I just turned 28 and I started reading FW in high school. Wow. I was aware of fanfiction but f_w was really my first encounter with fandom as a subculture, and it was glorious.

ten years of trolls and con artists. Amazing.

It may not be the biggest wank, but still my favorite, given that just last weekend I referred to qiviut as God's magic pubic hair yarn and my husband, to whom I had read aloud bits of this particular one when it happened, remembered what I was talking about and laughed.

I think I signed up for a Blurty account when the moved there after being TOS'd by LJ.

(I don't know what it says about me, but I knew all the wanks listed above by heart except for the frosting/icing wank. I feel this needs to be investigated further, with proper scientific testing about whether or not frosting or icing tastes better on cake.)
