On behalf of a dear friend on my flist (and other assorted Canadian flisters),

Dear Greg Gutfeld, Doug Benson, You Other Creepy Panelists Bill Schultz, Monica Crowley, Jonathan Hoenig, and Fox News,

Fuck you.

Can I add....

P.S. No, Kathy, he's also not funny.

*facepalm*

I'm just excommunicating him from America. Let's vote on that!

WORD. And thanks for sticking up for us. I know (and I hope most reasonable Canadians know) that this guy is an incredible asshole and not representative of Americans in general.

I clicked the youtube link and literally went *silent* in shock. I mean, it's not just insulting, it's not even funny or satirical.

And this is why I do not ever go near FOX news, ever.

I watched one minute and couldn't keep going. I can't watch that much stupidity in one dose... it's just impossible.

Faux News. Fox Noise. I don't care what you call them, I just don't want them to be on my TV. Or my computer. Idiots aren't welcome here. And it's segments like this that remind me as to why.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2009-03-24 04:55 am (UTC)
I was in shock. I was like "this is supposed to be *funny*?" and could not work out how the alchemy for that was supposed to work. My God.

I watched this a few days ago and it was painful to watch. I just don't understand how someone could get away with this. More than that, I don't know how anyone could think something as stupid as this and then say it to the public at large. Someone needs to punch that man in the face, and quickly, because we can't put up with this bullshit.

Hell I only watched the first minute or so & I felt my blood pressure rise. I'm a vet, and while I have never been where these guys have been, I can understand why they want the down time. AFAIK, Canada's military is no where near as large as the US's & getting the downtime to train, recuperate, restock and just have time with family should not be met with tasteless jokes like that. I do, however, love this comment, "Defence Minister Peter MacKay said he accepted the apology — pointing out it came only after his department contacted Fox demanding one earlier in the day." (Aka, "I'm a Canadian; I'll stab you in the back, but I'll do it politely!")

It was the fact that there was a comedy show on the news. I actually have no words to describe the level of What. The. Ever loving. Fuck-ness I felt what I saw the News logo in the bottom left of the screen. Really.

(Also, I just added you a few days ago -- hi! Awkward sort of ice-breaker, but hey.)

From: [identity profile] fengi.livejournal.com Date: 2009-03-24 01:36 pm (UTC)
An American fighter pilot killed the first four Canadians who died in Afghanistan (http://archives.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/asiapcf/central/04/18/afghanistan.canada/) (and wounded eight). It raised questions about America's use of alertness drugs to extend flight missions (http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/1-3-2003-33011.asp).

Then in 2006 it happened again (http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2006/09/04/afghanfriendly.html) - American planes killed 1 and wounded 30.

At the time America had caused 25% of all Canadian deaths in the Afghan war. It's important to note the Canadian casualty rate was still very low for the number of troops involved because they have a good military - when not getting bombed and strafed by their allies. America has become notorious for the number of incidents in Afghanistan involving friendly fire and incorrect targeting of civilians.

This context is needed to understand why the Canadian military wasn't just annoyed by generalized mockery, but a specific nasty context which Gutfeld and Fox didn't just forget, but clearly never knew and still don't know.

The truly horrible thing about this is that it perpetuates a sort of underlying dislike that's ready to surface at any moment. Here, of course, (Saskatchewan) people then think it's a good idea to have radio talk shows and the like in response, which becomes just an excuse to bash Americans ... and really, that's just showing how equally idiotic Canadians can be. There are idiots on both sides of the border. Unfortunately, they always seem to get air time.
