Fraser on safe sex:
I can't even tell where I was going with that. *facepalm* See, all it was? This thing with like, an axe and some--I don't even know. But it's almost twenty thousand words, it still doesn't have an ending, and I can't even prove it has a plot. I think there's snow and Frobisher. Yeah. No, not like that.
So basically, this is the only part of it I like. Likely, it's the only part anyone will ever see.
Fraser's stretched out on his stomach on the floor inches away from Dief, both of them staring at each other with a weird intensity.
"Didn't you do your dominance thing last night?" Ray asks, wanting coffee before trying to work out what this is. Much less--much less anything else. The back of his neck feels hot, and he can't help touching it, like Fraser left a mark there he could feel.
"We're having an argument," Fraser says tranquilly, chin on folded hands. "Regarding the consequences of foolish actions."
Dief snorts. Fraser rolls his eyes. "That won't be a problem for us," he answers firmly as Ray gets coffee and takes a drink. "I can't get Ray pregnant."
Ray swallows fast, leaning over the sink until he can breathe again.
"Or become pregnant," Fraser adds, to be complete about it.

From:Oh, BOYS. You make me realize that I miss Fraser and Ray; it's been so long since my headlong plummet into dS fandom that I forget how much I love them, sometimes.

From:This theory can lead you down some strange paths if you are not careful. Some of the paths involve undignified leg humping.

But, but, but...! *lip wibble* But twenty thousand words! And snow, and Frobisher, and staring contests! And Fraser and Ray and Dief!

From:Ah... You've been building characters. So long as the characterization doesn't become unbelievably repetitious or tedious, the emotional (winding, nonsensical) journey IS the plot. Life does not fall into neat little symmetrical piles; there's no rule saying the lives written about in fic have to, either.
However, if it just winds and winds and goes round and round with saying anything, then, it was the journey you needed to take, even if you didn't find the destination. It's not a waste. But, if you're frustrated, I'd step away for a while, then come back and viciously cut out any extraneous bits that don't convey (or at least symbolize) conflict, emotion, or intention.
I don't care where the plot goes in this, frankly. I'm not even part of that fandom; never saw an entire episode. Can't stand the looks of either actor, for no logical reason I could possibly give. And yet... now, I'm curious to see the show.
This understanding between them (and the
other womandog--this acknowledgment of what's not being said and the careful avoidance of weighty desires with a pretended calm and good humor... This perfect and seamless blend of two levels, here: "The back of his neck feels hot, and he can't help touching it, like Fraser left a mark there he could feel."We're having an argument," Fraser says tranquilly, chin on folded hands. "Regarding the consequences of foolish actions." If any of your twenty thousand words resemble these? I want to keep reading.

From:On the part you quoted: it's cool, I mean to me, that you pointed out that part. It's part of an ongoing conversation, sort of, between all three of them. I'm going back through the fic to check they work outside of context as well as in context and link up at least a little, with mixed success. It's honestly weird to work with a character that canonically only one other character can hear. Kind of the opposite of having a chorus.

From:but, YAY, because: Dief!!
too many people forget about Dief, or send him off to stay with Maggie or Frannie or somebody, yet in canon he's an important part of Fraser's life....
