right. yes. of course
Because I'm an idiot. I knew better.
Regarding Somewhere I Have Never Travelled and that thing that people were kind of cranky about.
Stupid Question
seperis: If you were writing Somewhere.
seperis: How would you reconcile Clark and Lex?
seperis: I'll write it tonight if you give me a good start point.
JOYOUS LEAP OF ATTACK
svmadelyn: *mulling*
madelyn: but my good starting point would take a very long time.
Me Not Realizing This
seperis: I'll give you a few minutes. *generous* While I find the stories.
When I Should Have Realized the Danger
madelyn: *tilts head, curtseys*
madelyn: the scraps from your table humble me, my dear.
Plot!
madelyn: Okay, I don't remember the logistics, but I liked the storyline you were going with with Daniel investigating the cults in the south.
madelyn: I basically liked what you wanted to do, and can't remember why you didn't want to do it
madelyn: but I like Clark staying out of not wanting to politically a-bomb lex's sorry ass
Angst!
madelyn: and Lex sitting there drunkenly knowing that the minute his presidency ends
madelyn: even the sham nearness of Clark ends.
madelyn: day in, day out, tormented suffering
madelyn: contemplating bombing small countries and declaring martial law in order to prolong presidency
madelyn: despite certain...logic gaps in The Plan
More Plot!
madelyn: then Clark finding out about Kryptonian Menace and after much ado and torment, and possibly the obliteration of a few cities that the world likes - how about Atlanta? It has a history of burning? And hmm. Chicago, we can give up my new city
Digression
(Jenn's Note: I blew up Atlanta in A Handful of Dust and pretty sure Chicago has already been home to one X-Men drug-addict fic and at least one X-Men cage fight fic and I possibly also blew it up in another story as well. Can I do that more than once?)
Plot!
madelyn: he decides he's going to need to become superman again, and has to find gold kryptonite
madelyn: lex is all: oh, fuck no, but yet, owes clark, and owes clark big, and also, still the president, still the out, perhaps after kryptonians lay waste to a few defense satellites and complexes
madelyn: *mulls*
madelyn: so Clark fights them. Possibly for a while.
Strange Side Plot
madelyn: Lex could get fat in the meantime.
Missed It the First Time She Said It
seperis: <--reading the cheating fic.
seperis: Hmm.
Reinterating Strange Side Plot With Angst!
madelyn: I like Lex getting fat, so far.
madelyn: I have to say.
madelyn: maybe he's got a tape of Lionel telling him he'll never be awesome.
madelyn: and he plays it over and over
madelyn: until it breaks.
madelyn: only he hears the voice in his head!
Sudden Realization of What I've Done
seperis: He is not going to get fat.
Sideplot With Added Angst!
madelyn: all the time. as he gets fat.
madelyn: well, you already gave him cancer.
madelyn: ...it could come back.
madelyn: ooooh.
seperis: I am so posting this.
madelyn: FAT AND CANCER.
...ladies and gentleman, I present my best friend. I know. Just--take a moment and hope for me.
Final Words
madelyn: I wish you'd have just stabbed me in the chest with an ice pick.
madelyn: It'd have been cleaner.
I feel the love.

Will Lex throw his - and our government's - massive resources into creating a space-age diet supplement so that he can Get Fit For Clark?

From:I think Chloe should get fat. It's the least she deserves for ruining the One True Love, that bitch. We hates her my precious.
Lex should take up cutting and alcoholism (more alcoholism)

From:It's not Chloe's fault. It's just that gradually, as Clark ceased to be superman, and then ceased to be even the vanquished superman, or that farmboy from Smallville, he became just another person, ultimately irrelevant to Lex's life. Honestly, I see Lex getting over Clark, to a large extent, because he IS irrelevant. Because Superman was always why he was interested in Clark in the first place, even before there was technically a superman. The obsession started with Clark using his powers to save Lex, remember.
Doesn't mean he won't get re-interested once Clark resumes his powers. Clark will probably feel different about himself once his powers are back too. There's a certain casual arrogance that comes with being Lex Luthor, and with being Superman.

From:Reconciliation is good, if only for the fact that I will then be less broken and stabby - but it would probably help if Lois did the voodoo doll thing. And bitchslapped Chloe (a lot).
Maybe Lex could stop eating and get unhealthily, size zero skinny instead of fat. Ooh, and Bruce could punch him.
Does Clark get to yell at him at any point? That would be good.
*goes off to be broken elsewhere* Darn your heartbreaking writerly skills.

From:It's not Chloe's fault that Clark and Lex ceased to be together. The obsession started with Clark using his powers to save Lex.
This suggests to me that Lex lacks a certain amount of self-insight at 30, and may not know explicitly that his interest in Clark will wane as Clark ceases to have ties to anything superhuman.
Doesn't mean he won't get re-interested once Clark resumes his powers. Clark will probably feel different about himself once his powers are back too. There's a certain casual arrogance that comes with being Lex Luthor, and with being Superman. They are both, I think, attracted to each other because of their relative strangeness and power, not despite it. There's a human, personality element to it, but I do not think that is the dominant element driving their relationship. They are interested in each other because each is powerful enough to be a check on the other. That is why each is fascinated by the other. Inevitably, Clark was not a suitable match for Lex after no longer had his powers.
Lex will continue on as a megalomaniac, unchecked, powerful, but at a certain level missing superman probably more than he misses Clark. Because Lex is kind of a bastard.
I would... like it if it took a while for Clark to get his powers back, to see the shift in body and personality. If someone saw him midway through, and weren't sure they liked Clark with superpowers better or not.

From:I really think that Lex is going to have to sacrifice himself to save Clark to make up for everything and to prove his love is real. However, I'm not sure how Clark and Lex are then going to be a happy couple if Lex is...you know...dead.

From:Madelyn, I LOVE you for keeping Seperis thinking about this fic... and Seperis, I wish you the best of luck in everything!
I've been listening to everyone who has been saying that Chloe should be 'punished' for her part in the betrayal... I still love her character, but I do think she also has some atonement of her own to go through. I don't know how close she and Clark were when The Incident happened, but I think it's possible that she's also been suffering from horrible guilt about what she did. And she probably feels terrible about destroying whatever remained of the trust and friendship she used to share with Clark. As bad as all that might be, I think she's due for for some serious penance...
At the very least, I do think she owes Clark an apology and an explanation.
heh, and as for Lex. Oh PLEASE don't make him fat! I don't think I could bear that! But I fully agree with Madelyn's bloodthirsty comments about he needs to do some serious suffering for the damage he did. I trust in Seperis completely and I look forward to seeing what she does to bring the boys back together again... especially since Lex did something that seems beyond reconciliation. Even if Clark manages to forgive him (Clark is not the type to hold onto hate and anger for too long), how will Clark ever be able to trust that Lex won't do this 'again'? If he found something in another person that he couldn't find in Clark (three times), why wouldn't be go searching for that specific kind of satisfaction in another person? These are the questions that I think would be haunting Clark, and not letting him trust Lex as a partner and lover again. The poor boys.
Best of luck with your writing, Seperis. I look forward to seeing how the chapters turn out. Good luck and best regards.
