how does that even work, thematically speaking?
...I seriously have no clue how to describe it, but I feel that maybe the Goa'uld came to earth before. I don't know. I only know that I didn't realize the lyric "Bright eyes" was oh so literal.
Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler.
I don't even know what to do with the ninjas. I just know my life could not have been complete until this moment.
You so want to know about the ninjas. Hell, I want to know about the ninjas.

From:But man, I just... I don't know why there are ninjas. At all.
I want to see this back-to-back with the video for Celine Dion's "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," because IIRC that's nearly as insane.

From:I loved this song -- I still love this song. But... there was no cable and the only videos I ever saw were the ones they played at the roller skating rink and... this didn't make the cut.
I wonder why. This is so much better to watch than "Every Breath You Take." Sting getting mopey and creepy with the candles does not hold a flame -- ha! I slay myself -- to ninjas.

From:There are few things I approve of more than inexplicable ninjas. Can you imagine if on SGA Zelenka and Ronon were just hanging out and ninjas were doing ballet in the background? I feel all shows should have them. Last Christmas, my brother and I became addicted to this Korean show called Emperor of the Sea, just because we happened to be flipping through the channels and stumbled across ninjas attacking out of nowhere for no discernible reason. Later we discovered they weren't just ninjas, but pirate ninjas, and promptly decided it was possibly the best show in the history of all of television.

From:And now. Now, I... think perhaps I was born too late. Wow. That's even better. Ninjas. Why are there showy ninjas? Does this not defeat the entire purpose of, in fact, being a ninja? Not that I'm really complaining, because between the ninjacapades, the pretty pretty princess Tarzan ballet, and the Children of the Corn Choir, that's just awesome.
And that last glowy-eyed kid made me jump and giggle at the same time. Not fair to pair sudden creepiness with falsetto. Not fair at all.

That video is wingfic!!!
With inexplicable football players.
And schoolboys.
And random smoke machines going insane.
And weird breech-clouted dancers.
I mean, I love the song ("once up a time there was light in my life! now there's only love in the dark! nothing I can say, a total eclipse of the heart" -- that's DEATHLESS PROSE right there), but WTF?

Sekrit Crossover, was Re: Russell Mulcahy
From:It's fanfic. No, really.
This guy has an analysis (http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/11/the-best-music.html) of the vid, but first note:
1) Russell Mulcahy was, if not gay, at least totally camp-friendly: he directed *numerous* vids for Elton John, for instance.
2) Mulcahy directed the first two Highlander movies, which is why this looks like a HL crossover: *BECAUSE IT IS*
3) He's also the one who cemented the Queen/HL connection.
So: my interpretation, which is less labored than the one in that blog:
Bonnie has visions of an immortal lover. The lover fights for her across time & space -- fencing, ninjas, etc. Meanwhile, she's a teacher, swimming through a haze of teenage-boy hormones, as her students seethe with barely-if-at-all-repressed homoerotic desires. She watches them, trying to keep herself apart,
not writing RPF about her own students because that would be so, so wrong, until at the end she has the shocking realization -- the immortal gothic lover she's been seeking has been re-incarnated as one of her hot schoolboys. So in fact it's a Highlander/Harry Potter crossover re-incarnation romance.

From:But... hmmmm. What is with the school boys? And the slightly scary falsettos at the end?
Maybe it's just a really freaky school where boys are forced to sing two octaves higher than is natural and learn funky ninja and gymnastic skills before they can graduate? Maybe it's Ninja High and this is why ninjas are deadly: because they're not scared of gymnastics or ballet.
(And, yeah, I'd never seen it before. I only know the cover version/clip from the nineties, which is a woman sitting in mood lighting and singing into the camera for the entire song.)
