Also, the Insurgency Wiki's Chanology's page has been... hacked? (I don't know if that's the word to use) Regardless, this is among the newest strategies they're taking: http://partyvan.info/index.php/Project_Chanology/Messengers_of_Xenu

My love for Anonymous is like an ocean.

I just read through the entire ED entry on Project Chanology and DAMN but it's freaky.

I always said Scientology was a freak-ass organization. February 10th will be interesting.

I marked it on my calendar myself.

Many links have collapse under robustitude. I saw the Message to Scientology video; what's happened since?

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-02 04:45 pm (UTC)
Three DDoS at least, crashed the scientology dot org hard, causing a retaliation hack and crash of 711chan, and planning RL protests. Just--stuff. So much stuff.

From: [identity profile] mecurtin.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-02 05:01 pm (UTC)
*scritches head* Is there any connection between "chan" in the fannish sense and "chanology"? 4chan???

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-02 05:05 pm (UTC)
Yes. 4chan and /b/ are part of the--well, movement. ED has a much better history on it.

From: [identity profile] mecurtin.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-02 05:14 pm (UTC)
Oh, I see there is. I shall now run to the grocery store and away from the (very very large) train wreck.

The OTF entries do a nice summarization. It's like the internet has united or something.

I'm not sure. I heard about it a few days ago on a comm, but I have no idea if it's a massive "your head, let me screw with it" campaign or for real. Either way, it's kind of interesting.

I am not actually following it but I get the sense that it is *both*, actually.

I was just pleased to see that someone put out the 22 rules video; I damn well don't care to see riots or other fiascos of the that nature. And I really would adore seeing the Church of Scientology get taken down or at least further exposed and denied any legitimacy. (They're sort of SF&F fandom's dirty--well, not secret. Scandal, I guess? Crazy uncle in the closet? Something, anyway, especially if you've ever participated in SoCal con-going fandom, since Hollyweird is a hotbed of Scientology.) Someone who has been a participant in peaceful protests before and has seen all the ways it can go pear-shaped put those rules together--I was impressed at the level-headedness and practicality of it.

That video was excellent. I kind of stopped and went, wow. Nice.

Too bad no one is doing it in Austin. I'd be tempted.

I have a lot of friends who are planning to attend one of the rallies. None of them are Anonymous, though a few of them are friends with Anons.

It's fascinating, really. Who will win: the multi-national, immoral, bullying cult. Or the easily distracted mob of geeks who have no concrete identity?

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-02 09:38 pm (UTC)
If there was a rally in Austin, I'd be tempted to join in.

Austin - scientology

One day they came and they took the Communists
And I said nothing because I was not a Communist
Then one day they came and they took the people of the Jewish faith
And I said nothing because I had no faith left
One day they came and they took the unionists
And I said nothing because I was not a unionist
One day they burned the Catholic churches
And I said nothing because I was born a Protestant
Then one day they came and they took me
And I could say nothing because I was as guilty as they were
For not speaking out and saying that all men have a right to freedom
On any land
I was as guilty

(variant of a poem first attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller which my mother often quotes. Is it ironic that I feel it is more in support of Germany's current actions than that of the scientologists?

I'll keep looking for information about an Austin rally. Does anyone know where to find the city ordinances that would apply if I try to organize one myself. I'm trying to find one or the other now. As it's right across from UT I would be surprised if at least one student wasn't already planning something even as I type. I don't attend protests or rallies, but if adding myself to this effort can be the start of limiting the damage done when people use laws intended to prevent religious presecution to conceal thier crimes, I would be honoured to have been part. If I can't find anything I plan to be there on Sunday, in the hope that there was just poor advertising.

Sorry, I know I'm hijacking your comments here. This is actually the first place I'd heard of this, and since I am in the same city I thought I'd share the initial information I found.

God, I love this stuff. I have a friend who's an Anon, I'm going to hit him up for inside info as soon as I see him online.

It fascinates me. The Church of Scientology's practices bother me on a whole bunch of levels, so I'm really with Anon on this one, especially considering that Anon is being remarkably level-headed and mature about it in their own way. Who'd'a thunk, ya know?

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2008-02-02 09:39 pm (UTC)
Yeah. I have to agree with you there.

I'm actually thinking about going to the rally in Atlanta. It would be incredibly interesting.

I have to admit it would be.

Actually, this restores my faith in humanity. Even if Anon ultimatly fails, the sheer beauty, hope and energy of this enterprise is admirable and I will pray for success -in any form- be it only spreading the word about the evil and massive exploitation, not to mention stupidity, that is the CoS.
