Ten Things That Made Me Happy

1.) Interaction. I loved the jumper with Ronon, Radek, and John. Loved Ronon sulking hugely and Radek in that truly horrifying shirt and John like, God, why did I agree to fly them? God. That was almost painfully cute. I didn't get to shoot animals! I was running tests! John does so much with expressions that I hate to look away from him for a second, because I always miss something. I got the feeling he had been in a closed jumper with them *way too long*.

2.) Interaction. Elizabeth and Teyla, Elizabeth and Heightmeyer, Teyla and Heightmeyer, Elizabeth and Teyla and Heightmeyer. I don't know if the show is consciously going for that, but throughout the ep, there were a lot of casual and non-casual interactions between the different members of Atlantis, which was really nice to see. People comfortable with each other. People chatting. Family. I approve of the show doing this a lot. We don't need *much*--these bits imply a lot and show plenty.

3.) The John-and-Rodney show. That deserves like it's own *entry*, but there's nothing here that doens't make me squee. Rodney calling John, OMG MY BESTEST WHALE FRIEND SAM IS VISITING OMG COME SEE THIS! I WILL GET MATCHING SPARKLY BRACELETS FOR US! And John THAT BASTARD WHALE TAKING MY BEST FRIEND AND HEY WHERE IS MY SPARKLY BRACELET? Yeah. Like that. But other than my thirteen year old girl reading, I loved that Rodney called John over to check out the whales. Because of course he would. They share all the ultracool things.

4.) Whales. Seriously. AWESOME SEA MONSTERS HOW FUCKING COOL WAS THAT?????????????? I am twelve. Hi!

5.) Them going to look at the whales. John is like FIELDTRIP OMG and Rodney is like YES FIELDTRIP I MEAN SERIOUS STUDY WHATEVER LET US BRING SNACKS! And they're just so *excited*. And John throwing Radek out of the jumper so he and Rodney can go play Seaworld. They totally went ot Sea World as kids and sat in the front row.

6.) John admitting a headache was actually odd--I mean, this is the guy who limps along looking stoic and with gunshots, so my first thought was OMG HIS BRAIN IS EXPLODING. Which seemed to hit Rodney too, with that sidelong look. I loved how John started low grade calm stoic panic when Rodney's nose started bleeding, and then manly less stoic panic when Rodney passed out. Awesome.

7.) AWESOME EMPATHIC SEA MONSTERS! HOW COOL IS THAT?????????

8.) I just--I kind of wnat to know how they explain John following Rodney around for you know, completely useless scientific endeavors. A part of me does get that in parts of the city that are unoccupied, of course there'd be a military escort along to avoid, say, setting off more nanoviruses, but--I mean, seriously? Has anyone maybe slowed down and asked why the military commander of Atlantis OMG MUST FOLLOW RODNEY AROUND EVERY SECOND? I think this is where they all just say don't ask, don't tell and Rodney makes up soemthing like John once took a class in something that sounds vaguely scientific and he's needed for important standing and looking hot reasons. And you know, in case of emergency last minute plan of action purposes.

Again, my lj, my slash googles here. Though honestly, do we even *need* them at this point?

9.) Caldwell sulking in the Daedalus. Methinks he is feeling not part of the family. Awww. Yeah. Sorry. You're really not. And you're seriously not getting into Liz's pants. No matter how much you pout.

10.) For some reason, John touching the ZPM was a real high point for me. I've been watching this show too long. There he was, running those strong, competent hands over this gold, glowing rod and all intense and focused, holding all that power between his fingers and--um. Um. Yeah. Moving on.

11.) Big explosion. My favoritest thing ever. *sighs dreamily*

12.) John wandering out to make sure that Rodney's other best friend is getting the hell away already. Oh love. Deep, deep love.

13.) PIEGON RACES! OMG! I LOVE THIS SHOW!

Now, the things that I really actually loved.

1.) Ronon and Teyla in teh infirmary. What, two minutes there, but the closeness, the friendship, Ronon's fear and their just--I mean, teammates and friends and maybe lovers someday if not yet, but he's so in love and it just makes me ache when I see it. I don't think she's there yet, but he is, he has been, and I want to see them do this *right*. So much.

2.) John as he brings Elizabeth into the infirmary. Staring at Elizabeth, then the infirmary, the slow understanding of what's happening, that they're out of time, completely not what he was ready for. Lookign at the first death, his mind already moving, trying to think of something, anything--going to Teyla, that blank horror of knowing he's losing *everyone* and will lose everyone, and Ronon like, Sheppard, you have a plan? Which is like a fucking *knife* because he doesn't, but he's going to get one. And then he does. And it's suicidal, which is completely not a surprise, and Rodney's standing there trying to explain DEATH but again, this is John and like Ronon, he believes, which I bet keeps him up at night someitmes, because why in the name of God does he actually *believe* in this guy? But he does, and they do it.

And they're in separate parts of the freaking *ship*, but they might as well be alone in the same room, because there's no one else there for them, and they aren't toast.

Omg and here I was thinking I'm the only Teyla/Ronon shipper in existence. I loved them so much in this ep, it's insane. The infirmary scene was so great, and the END omg.

I just rewatched it before going to bed, and - yes. Balcony scenes. Field trips. Meredith. And everything. So awesome. And oh, JF. How I love the way he acts in that part of the infirmary scene where he's just in the background, lying there. Making grimaces and all. OMG love.

I'm taking over this post. LOL

I loved John trying to pop his ears while in the background. JF just rules at that stuff. LOL

I had a hard time paying attention to what the others were talking because I was mostly watching him in that scene!

I totally believe JF is taking his cues from DH. There's a moment in the commentary for...Conversion, I think...where JF is talking about trying to deliver important dialogue, and how DH just steals the scene by standing behind him eating a Powerbar or something. *g*

I think that was the "splinter acting" thing, but I totally agree. :D

I AM SUCH A SPOILER WHORE. Kill me now *wails* it'll be a mercy killing I tell you because, because no fucking show until MARCH? Arggh. I soooo miss the John & Rodney show. *sniffles*

Wound up here hopping from link to link, I love your fics and this recap! Did anyone else crack up when they revealed Sam was a baby whale? Apparently even kids from different species love Rodney. :)

3&5) They're such BFFs. That, or an old married couple, I can't decide (dude, when they were deaf and yelling at each other, I totally flashed to them forty years down the line...).

6) I find it interesting that the only time John really suffered from the whale song was when he was up close to them, and while they probably just forgot to show it, he didn't really hallucinate, either. Definitely going down in my reasons-why-John-is-so-totally-an-Ancient-or-some-such-thing.

There's something seriously wrong with a fandom for not doing that. If I wasn't on finals I'd totally make that my first SGA fic.

Have you read the books? They so make John more special than the show does (or, well, has recently). I was they were considered more canon, like with Doctor Who books. ::sigh::

6) That's interesting since I was kinda wondering about the Ancients trying to attract/converse the apparently deadly whales. But if it wasn't so dangerous to Ancients...

Well, if we're assuming that their brains work at least slightly different than a humans brain, then it might not have given them much more than slight headaches or something. I mean, it took Carson a while to go down, too, and he has a natural gene. I can't remember if we saw anyone else with the natural gene having problems/not having them....

I forget, do we know if Heightmeyer has the gene? Because she didn't seem to be all that affected either.

I totally had this crazy theory going on at the beginning of the episode that they were going to have her be the baddy or something. I think I've been reading too much fanfic ^.^

I just watched and yes to all of the above. Women talking to each other. That almost never happens on Atlantis outside of meetings, and it makes me so happy to see it. Although all of the interactions were fun.

But you're right John and Rodney were the best part. The following, the jealousy, the excursions, the matching infirmary beds--where they were getting dressed together behind the curtains.

Everyone expects John to have a plan now and John expects Rodney to make it happen. I love that dynamic.

And you're totally right, the only people on the Daedalus who mattered to John and Rodney were John and Rodney.

Like I needed a reason.

I loved that the Rodney's response when John asked how the ZPM hook up is going is the same (exactly I think) that he gives when asked the same question in Rising. That was so neat.

LOL...that was beautiful...all the great stuff!!!

I think this is where they all just say don't ask, don't tell and Rodney makes up soemthing i love that!!!! also, the lab beautifully came to life when john walked in...he's the city's golden boy and must accompany rodney to initiate...right? :D

John goes from pouting jealousy over 'Sam', to figuring out how to pretend to be the nice understanding boyfriend - hey, yeah - I'll OFFER to take you to go see your new bestest wet friend!

And then he's in the jumper, saying casually to Radek that Rodney's just gone to take some Dramamine. I found that unbearably domestic, don't ask me why. Just matter-of-fact (and not being used as a big har har poke at sea-nervy Rodney).

Of course, they're wrong after the flare dies. They are both toast of the hottest and crispiest kind. With butter and HONEY.

Also, as

annundriel noticed, you can hear John slap Rodney's arse as he walks away in that last scene. Yeah, just make it all super-text, guys, why don't you? Oh Dr. McKay, I love you!

I totally loved every second of this episode!! I loved all of the interactions, all of the characterizations, and I loved the way the women were written as much as the men's parts.

No, we don't. This was like an example of my favorite type of slash fanfic EVER. (and it worked equally well with them as an established couple, or chelle's interpretation of clueless-Rodney and totallyCrushing-John.)

Yes. John was totally jealous of Sam, and by the end, he wasn't even trying to hide it anymore.

Also, in the infirmary when John was trying to think up a plan, that was his "about to fly a nuke into a Hive ship face." I'm halfway convinced Rodney recognized it and helped come up with the ZPM umbrella plan just so he wouldn't hear "see ya later" again.

And? Ronon was really hot. I just felt that needed to be said.

YES OMG to all of the above. Gero has to have read some fanfic. This season is OMG the John/Rodney love. And it's getting progressively better.
Episode was one big fanfic. I actually said outloud "no freakin way did they just say that/do that" several times cuz the cuteness was just TOO MUCH.

Oh! But you forgot Carson getting between them and the door of the infirmary! And Elizabeth's semi-patient "mother-of-hyper-active-children" look when they were yelling at each other from their beds! And the city lighting up at John ENTERING THE ROOM. Yes. This season is the bestest. :)

Yeah, he's sulky, but I get the feeling inside he's a little like, "Whee, adventures!" Possibly that's just me.

1) OMG, yes. The way they were all talking, Zelenka and Ronan were off an a little adveture all on their own, with John just ferrying them back in the jumper. Pretty good setup for somebody to write some Ronan/Radek slash, and though I've only been known to read my OTP in this fandom, for them I would take a little detour from my all McShep, all the time thing.

Oh my god, yes! I just loved the way John was forever trying to get Rodney's attention (away from Sam) - the infirmary scene just says it all.
Also, I love the bit in the jumper where John says 'passed out' instead of 'fainted' - Rodney's got him trained.
