Pretty icons, courtesey of [livejournal.com profile] taraljc here!

Two Bad!Clarks, two Lexana. Ah, she knows me SO well! *hugs* Can see the four new ones here too!

In case anyone is curious, I am pathologically incapable of making cool icons. I depend on the skill of others. *g*

Other news.

Recs and thoughts on sexuality and materialism in Smallville, in which I ramble randomly over the subjects without much in the way of organization. To think I used to be GOOD at essays. My English teacher would put a hit out on me if she saw this.

Um. She isn't HERE is she?

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool is brave. Very, very brave. And frankly? Still not sure my ego is up to doing that to myself. *g* As if anyone would answer. But. Hmm. You know...

I actually COULD critique myself with this survey, though.

Ooohkay. Let's see what I like and don't like about myself as a writer.

1) What was the first story you read that I wrote?

*snicker* My first story was Manipulation.

1a) Did you like it or not?

Still do. Usually.

1b) Why or why not?

Fast read, easy to follow, episode extender, and I was in the middle of this really weird short-sentence phase. Very weird to see the difference between then and now.

1c) What do you remember most about it?

The fact I could not COULD NOT write any form of sex into it. No, really. I AM that shallow.

2) What story of mine do you like the best?

The Wasteland

2a) Why?

Hmm. Because it fulfilled everything I wanted it to, which few stories I've written have ever succeeded in actually achieving. Technically, it's somewhat cleaner than most of my Smallville work. And the ambiguity of the ending--rational happiness, no real dramatics--works for me a lot. It's not an ending at all, but more like a different kind of beginning, and I like it for that.

Also? I like this Lex. A lot.

2b) What separates it from the other stuff I wrote?

Hmm. Not sure. See above.

2c) What separates it from other stories like it?

Not sure. See above.

3) What story of mine do you like the *least*?

Dear God. Flight. A complete failure in every way that counts.

3a) Why?

Bad imagery, bad grammar, bad flow, terrible pov, nightmarish use of style, weird, weird, BIZARRE choice of subject. I swear, I HAD to be high, I HAD to be.

3b) What separates it from the other stuff I wrote?

see above

3c) What separates it from other stories like it, if anything?

see above

4) What about my writing style grabs you?
4a) What stories exemplify this style?

skipping, not qualified.

5) What type of story (not which characters) would you like to see me write?

*determined* Plot based. Episode style.

6) Is there a specific character or situation you'd like to see me try my hand at?

*more determined* Lex/Lana, Chloe/Clark.

6a) Why do you think I'd be good at it?

Don't think I will be. I just want to try it.

7) Is there anything, in your experience, that you think would help me fix a specific flaw in my writing?

Besides wordiness and a tendency toward melodrama? *g* Clarity. Better focus. Stronger emphasis on current canon. Clarity of progression in the story. Less ambiguity.

Dialogue, dialogue, dialogue.

Okay, hit me. And if you'd like to jump straight into the 'don't likes', feel oh so free.

Come on. This is FUN. *g*
