well damn

Screw flock. These resources are pulled from flocked posts, but none of the links *are* flocked.

Reorganized entry to avoid confusion.

Okay, I've been offline today and my flist is saying suspensions started. There's a list here.

Can anyone confirm the following people vanished of their own accord?

1. [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne - ignore this one, confirmed deletion by user
2. [livejournal.com profile] lynntownsend (noted on one of the lists)
3. [livejournal.com profile] alden_k - ignore this one, probable deletion by user

Community [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies also suspended, according to the list.

Lists are here (courtesy of my flist and [livejournal.com profile] musesfool, please click cut and read because this is getting long:

[livejournal.com profile] catrinella here

[livejournal.com profile] lolaraincoat here

[livejournal.com profile] florahart here.

[livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic here.

[livejournal.com profile] liz_marks here on the WFI thing.

Fandom Wank is having a blast here

[livejournal.com profile] jamoche is collecting LJ abuse responses here. This is screened and anonymous.

[livejournal.com profile] antariel93 has up the response to her inquiry on why her commms were suspended here

[livejournal.com profile] azurelunatic posted here.

[livejournal.com profile] liviapenn posts here about removing interests, etc.

Community for the purging here.

First: ask around so we can be sure we don't lose our own here. Maybe someone with a lot of people on their flist can make a central point for people to post to, or use one of those threads? Am I freaking out yet? Yes. I am.

Second: can everyone check their userinfo and see if anyone else has vanished? Also check your unfriends in the last twenty four hours--I was unfriended by four and three are deleted, and that makes me nervous.

Reserve the right to flock later if someone who knows more than I do says I should.

This is just for me--if you are on my flist and decide to preemptively delete briefly, please tell me so I don't panic?

z_rayne???? Shit.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2007-05-29 10:53 pm (UTC)
Don't know yet. She could be just taking a break or changing names or something. I'm trying to track down a couple of people that know her well to confirm.

Oh, I can tell you that [livejournal.com profile] alden_k did delete her journal a while back. That's pretty much the only thing I have to offer about what's going on with LJ at the moment except for a big "WTF?" o.O

ratcreature: WTF!? (WTF!?)

From: [personal profile] ratcreature Date: 2007-05-29 11:09 pm (UTC)
I was really WTF? when I first heard that pornish_pixies got suspended from the HP portion of my f-list. But okay, it was porn community on the kinky side with no restrictions against rape or chan or incest or anything, so I can see the reaction if some specific overzealous complaint came in. What's more puzzling is the thing with the RPG villain journals. I mean, suspending the journal of fictional RPG villains when from what I've read the RPG has even rules restricting graphic content and disclaimers all over is kind of bizarre.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2007-05-29 11:13 pm (UTC)
It's--yes. Seriously.

Also, I am *so damn glad* when I posted that link that it wasn't hypertexted. Jesus. I don't think there's anything questionable in my lj on those fronts, and frankly, they'd have to go entry by entry to find the few things there might be.

Now I'm staring at my flist blankly, wondering if anyone's going to vanish. It's kind of freaking me out.

Good call. I only list fandoms and hobbies in mine, but I did go through and lock one or two posts that might be questionable. Though God knows, they'd have to go through a lot of entries to find them.

I see you were right to be concerned -- babies and bathwater seem to be getting equal treatment in the first phase. (RPG journals? A community for Nabokov? Vigilance devoid of context is both stupid and dangerous -- and counterproductive.)

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2007-05-29 11:24 pm (UTC)

*Hugs* One of the things that's making me a little insane is knowing that a couple of fannish people "in the LJ know" (ie who work for LJ or are close friends with those who do) were LAUGHING and calling people crazy and saying that NO, OF COURSE LJ wasn't going to be deleting journals, no, there was nothing at all going on behind the scenes.

Which, you know, now comes across as lies.

From: [identity profile] mary-alice.livejournal.com Date: 2007-05-29 11:55 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the info -- I'd completely missed hearing about this.

This actually is giving me a strong sense of deja vu. Years ago, there were similar problems back with... geocities accounts, maybe? Don't remember the site anymore, but it was exactly this sort of behavior: someone complained, and the webspace provider would immediately delete the "offending" website, with essentially no investigation of the complaint (and, as I recall, no backups...) I remember a couple of times where some fannish nastiness manifested itself in bogus complaints to cause people problems with their web-providers. At least LJ seems to have a decent backup capability, so even suspended accounts can be readily retrieved, but it's really ludicrous that we're still operating on "guilty until proved innocent" rules. (Sigh.)

This sort of thing was one of my prime worries with FanLib, actually.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2007-05-29 11:57 pm (UTC)
You know, I vaguelly rembmer hearing about that. Was it around 2000-2002? that was one of my main reasons for going to a private domain, though I never got hit.

Hmm. I think that was around that time.

I'm not deleting, but I did a mass flock. I know a lot of my public posts from months past had recs and things that could be questionable, and I had intrests listed until a few days ago that could have gotten me TOSed according to the LJ letters, I just want to be careful, you know?

It's easier for me to go through and unlock the stuff that I'm comfortable having out there, than to have tried to go and lock specific entries. *sigh*

I'm...a little freaked out. LJ has always felt like such a cloistered little place to me, this is...kind of icky-feeling.

I'm just sitting here having a quiet panic to myself. I kept fairly calm during the whole deal at the weekend. I'm pretty upset at folk having to flock things. Luckily I haven't lost anyone from my flist yet but I did delete a couple of interests and leave a comm. At least I know now that just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get us. I'm hoping that LJ will just stick to groups that this stupid organization points out. If LJ goes after all groups that have incest... well there goes a lot of Supernatural stuff, and Numb3rs, and I'm sure there's more. I'm hoping that my fandoms will be ok because it's all adult incest (seriously, the Numb3rs fandom is so small we can't *afford* to lose anything).

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2007-05-30 12:09 am (UTC)

Woke up this morning to my fandom world exploding with information overload, and I have to admit I'm fighting the urge to lock everything. Instead I purged my interest list except for the most bland of subjects, but I'm very tempted to wipe my interest completely, hide my f-list, and madly friends everyone's lj I read once in awhile. Except I feel strange friending ppl's lj when I read them once every month or so, it makes me feel dishonest.
