To new friends--hi! I haven't done this in a while. Frankly, my attention span has been shot in a variety of ways, so um, sorry for the non-welcome, but hi! Glad to see you! This is sort of a welcome and introduce yourself post.
Um, about me, maybe? To break the ice? Then tell me about you.
You can really tell I'm avoiding things, can't you?
Behind the cut.
Well. I'm a Smallville slash writer, a QaF writer, and kind of a general Battlestar Galactica lurker, which is really *fun*--no one ever told me fandom lurking was this much fun! Former fandoms include X-Men the Movie and Star Trek Voyager. I dabbled a tiny bit in two others, HP and Spiderman the Movie, but that's it. This is kind of a one-trick pony LJ--I write. I'm really not good at anything else. Occasionally I meta, in really weird ways. My art is abysmal, and there are very good reasons that for the most part, other people make my icons for me. I friendslock only in extreme RL venting or extreme RL personal stuff, which frankly, isn't often, and is usually the height of me, whining, so no one is missing much. I don't have an actual stable friending policy--I friend when I find I have a surfeit of free time to enjoy reading everyone, and I stop when I realize I can't keep up. I don't unfriend very often, and usually only reciprocally or with dead LJs. Frankly, I am boring.
But wait! I can stack cheese. That right there is as interesting as I will ever be. And one day, the gods of dairy willing, I will come across several dozen pounds of pre-sliced cheese, make another Leaning Tower of Chees-a or a Cheese Arch, and then take pictures. Because man, that was fun, and everyone should try it once. Also, according to comments, sliced meats will work as well. Any experiments on this should, of course, be shared.
I'm co-moderator of
sv_inquiry with the Voice of Fandom (calling her that never stops being funny),
svmadelyn, where you can go to ask pretty much any question related to Smallville fanfic or meta--pretty much a "where is it" kind of thing. I'm co-owner with
hwmitzy of Illuminated Text, our domain of happy slashiness and hettiness. I'm tall. The movie The Ring still scares me to death. I'm a single parent of an eight year old boy. He's very cute. I'm a Texas Works Advsior and Eligibilty Specialist, which is a *really* cool way of saying I determine whether people are eligible for state and federal programs like Food Stamps, Medicaid, and TANF (Temporary Aid for Needy Families). I'm certified in those three and a Medicare cost-share that pays the copayment for eligibile Medicare recipients. I also have a new ergo-whatever keyboard that is slowly driving me insane. If you see any posts with a lot of repeat letters (like say, letttttttttttters) it's me and my war with my keyboard. I try to catch it, but it will happen. So just, know it now.
Um, I don't have actual rules for my LJ, since there's never been a situation that's come up that requires them. Don't flame. That's pretty much the one and only thing. Very not of the fun, and also, headache inducing.
Okay. There you go. So. Um. Introduce yourself if you feel like it?

From:Actually that's probably not true, but hey, this is supposed to be an intro, right?!
I friended you because I like your fic, think you seem pretty cool, despite your insistence that you are boring.
I do art, I write fic, and occasionally, I watch so much TV that Samara has to flop out of my television screen dripping wet from her well to chase me away from it--I've seen the extended preview for Ring Two, and it's going to be intense!
I have a Real Life--I think--but what's important is my secret identity as Lexalot, professional LJ Land Nutcase bringing non-sensical ravings and blind unconditional love to SV fandom. Why??! Because!
I believe that all the wisdom one needs to live and live well and right and true can be found in The Simpsons--this is not my opinion; it can be scientifically, politically, philosophically, academically, psychoanalytically and medically proven!
And this is why I usually don't say much outside of my own LJ--LOL :)
We now return your regularly scheduled comments, jenn hon.

From:Erm, I don't usually watch scary movies, but I got dragged to see the Ring and because I'm an Original snob, I'd to see Ringu, the Japanese version. Then somehow, even though I hadn't indicated that I wanted to see it, a friend got me Ringu 2 as a gift so I had to see that. So you can say I'm a reluctant the Ring fan. I didn't think the Ring particularly scary, just a shuddering kind of gross in its imagery.
That's all.

I'm Linzee - I got into this fandom this summer through Sisabet, who suckered me into Smallville after three years of my swearing up and down I'd never watch by having me read "Sleep While I Drive." From:My (rarely updated) journal consists almost entirely of Tales of the Boy (JB, 4 1/2) and odd, largely pointless rambles, on subjects such as No Superhearing for Me, Please. I've been known to write fic (almost entirely in the almost unheard-of Forever Knight fandom), but haven't felt much inspired in the last several years. Not least because most of the storylines that interest me have been explored quite ably by any number of others ;-)
For no particular reason, my brain has gotten inextricably stuck on this discussion of The Ring -- or rather, on the subject of horror films and why people subject themselves to them -- so I'm going to indulge in a Terrible and Pointless Ramble. Please pardon me. I have to point out that I've never seen The Ring, & have no intention whatsoever of ever doing so, so any association with actual topic is almost entirely coincidental.
I finally learned at the advanced age of 10, when I first met the Black Riders, that creepy stuff and I make very bad bedmates. Though oddly enough, that didn't prevent me reading either Poe or Roald Dahl around the same time. (The unlighted 'crypt' at the back of my father's basement still has a starring role in my mental film of "The Cask of Amontillado.")
To the best of my remembrance, I've only ever voluntarily watched two horror movies. (Not counting Hammer Horrors, which are just too cute for words.)
One involved Liam Neeson and a truly gorgeous haunted neo-Gothic Victorian mansion (Googles for title: The Haunting (:http://www.splicedwire.com/99reviews/haunting.html")) -- which we went to see largely for the utterly scrummy house, and which I remember mainly for the excellent hot chocolate we giggled over afterwards at the Honey Pot Café.
The other is The Frighteners (http://movieweb.com/movies/synopsis.php?id=2114&ns=1), which I totally, utterly adore*, and haven't watched in far too long. It's Peter Jackson, after all, and a wonderful blend of horror, comedy and romance ... Which naturally did depressingly poorly at the box office everywhere but NZ.
Sorry for the length of this post. Sometimes they escape and take on strange (and mercifully brief) lives of their own ...
*I must admit to a Vested Interest here, as I'm actually in the movie** -- for all of about two seconds -- as are a couple of friends.
**As a result of which I can state from first-hand experience that Peter Jackson is a very cool director, and Michael J Fox is surprisingly short (only slightly taller than me) and also rather cool. Also, being an extra for one day is fun. Any longer & I'd go mad.

My son loves that movie. He watched it without me knowing, and just giggled the entire way through iut, apparently. It'sstill one of his favorites, for all the cool stuff that happens in it. "Mommy, look at the walls bubble! Why can't our walls bubble?"
