Seconding [livejournal.com profile] amireal's rec for The Body Holographic by [livejournal.com profile] springwoof and Leah, sequel to Left to Fend by [livejournal.com profile] springwoof

Okay, *intersting*. And I don't say this lightly. The original story was interesting, but this one, which the authors call a remix--a past, present, and future for that story, giving it a huge and interesting backstory and context. Very non-linear, but fairly easy to follow, painful, brutal--but man, that ending totally screwed with my head wonderfully.

The last time I blindly read your rec, I got horse sex and diapers. *distrusts*

*sends tissues*

No diapers.

Thank you so much for that rec. What a revelation on so many levels.

Thank you so much for the rec! Leah & I are very pleased that you liked it...and for you to call it "interesting" is really something! ::hugs::

BTW, we should also probably also warn folks that there's character death (it's a futurefic, we pretty much kill off almost everyone by the end).

We also posted it to LJ, in parts (because it choked LJ when we tried to stuff it all into one post!), here: The Body Holographic on LJ (http://leahwoof.livejournal.com/)

happy wags, springwoof

Wow. Just finished reading it and thanks for the recommendation. Fanfiction is where I've discovered most of non-linear storytelling and it's fascinating how in good storytelling the order is the most irrelevant and even though you know what happens next because of the format, it's intriguing because it makes you focus on how it happens rather than the usual question of what happens.
Also, I hope you don't mind if I add you to my friends' list :)

Thanks for the rec. I just finished this and loved the worldbuilding (I had so many issues with things like the mindwiping and the absolute power of the Tal, and it was interesting in a way I rarely find in fanfic) and had a hard time not bawling my eyes out for the last, oh, fifth of the story. It was a horror story and a love story at the same time to me. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

You don't know me, but thank you so much for this recommendation. Definitely painful to read, but anything that can induce such a lump in my throat I consider to be excellent writing. It's going to take me a while to absorb this.
