taking suggestions

Okay, so--say I wanted a non-writing fannish project. Any suggestions? Yes, seriously, non-writing. I used to redo my site when I was stressed, but I kind of like it as-is.

So. Project. Something intersting and useful and fun.

Okay. Go. What should I do?

From: [identity profile] piplover.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 09:49 pm (UTC)
Um...can you do vids?
Or you could make a collage, or a banner.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 11:20 pm (UTC)
Me and vid are not OTP--however, my Adobe is around here somewhere and I *think* it works.

Hmm. I haven't tried art in years. Except for my frog icons.

From: [identity profile] diluvian.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 09:52 pm (UTC)
Icons?

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 11:21 pm (UTC)
I was thinking about that. I just have the most dorky taste in icons. I get on bizarre animal themes.

But hmm. I could do rabbits.

From: [identity profile] amireal.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 09:56 pm (UTC)
Do more of those looong recs. Encourage others.

Create a rec challenge like you talked about.

Or is that too close to writing?

Hrmm.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 11:21 pm (UTC)
Well, a rec wouldn't be writing, so much as creative and lengthy squeeing. I like that. Squeeing at others is fun.

From: [identity profile] issaro.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 09:56 pm (UTC)
hmmm... non-writing... I suppose mentioning that Landscape ended up on SV-inquiry would be gauche then, huh? I'll make sure I don't mention it *eg*

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 11:21 pm (UTC)
Huh. It did?

I've got some fannish cross-stitch patterns, if you like that kind of thing. BTVS, Trek, SG-1 Classic, Pros, Alias Smith & Jones; I could send one or two as attachments . . .

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 11:22 pm (UTC)
God, I haven't done cross-stitch in years! But thankyou for the offer.

...you have *fannish* cross-stitch? Oh wow.

From: [identity profile] jilltanith.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-28 01:47 am (UTC)
Well, you did say non-writing. But these are probably a longer-term project than you had in mind . . . ;)

If you do decide to look into it, the website is in the reply to the other commenter.

From: [identity profile] dine.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-28 01:01 am (UTC)
sorry for butting in, but where could one obtain fannish cross-stitch patterns? I'd love to be able to combine hobbies like that, and projects could make great presents.

From: [identity profile] jilltanith.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-28 01:43 am (UTC)
The Creative Needle Sewing Club (http://www.cross-stitch-club.co.uk/) has a Members section that you have to register to get into; but registration is free, and they have a free pattern section that you can log into once you do. They change the designs available monthly, this month they have some simple Christmassy designs but usually they're media-related, and they keep a month or two in the archive. So right now, if you go log in, they've got half a dozen Law-and-Order related designs (3 detectives and 3 DAs). Sometimes they'll do an open-archive month where you can get tons! I've got Buffy, Angel, and Spike; the five Captains from Trek; Bodie and Doyle; a nice team shot of Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c, etc., and also Sting, Queen, the Beatles, and so on . . .

Not that I've got 'round to actually doing any of them . . .

Polls? Organize some sort of challenge? (It needn't be writing, and the organizational part is above and beyond creativity)

Rewatch all SGA episodes and post random squee?

From: [identity profile] thepouncer.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 10:02 pm (UTC)
Oh! Music mixes! For a character or a theme or even an episode. Yis.

Id go wit icons. Vids are incredibly hard, and you strike me as a person who'd want to be *good* at something and the learning curve to get there...

But icons are wonderful little 100x100 pieces of art that even I manage to do (albeit badly :-)

Other than that, I love amireal's suggestion, but nonfiction writing's still writing, right? Rec challenge? Hey, tha'ts something even I might be able to participate in for once??? ;-)

Digital Scrapbooking of your favorite moments in fandom. So addictive and useful!! And so many resources available!

From: [identity profile] siegeofangels.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 10:04 pm (UTC)
Hm. How about themed recs sets? And then we get to guess the theme.

Organizing things into groups always makes you feel better. *nods sagely*

From: [personal profile] ratcreature Date: 2006-06-27 10:07 pm (UTC)
You could do art, maybe? Or train your bunnies to reenact SGA scenes and then take photos or videos of that, and then we'd have SGA in 30 seconds as reenacted by bunnies or something...

From: [identity profile] siegeofangels.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 10:18 pm (UTC)
OH! Or, like, little action figures to be John and Rodney and whatnot, trapped on the planet of the giant bunnies. It'd be, like, slideshow fic.

Definitely involve the bunnies.
ratcreature: Heh. RatCreature is amused. (heh.)

From: [personal profile] ratcreature Date: 2006-06-27 10:21 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I suppose it might be easier to get photos of the bunnies chewing or stomping on John and Rodney action figures than to get them toact out scenes. :)

Well... there's an SGA marathon this Friday...

I got nothin'.

Here's my Atlantis bunny. Maybe it's more helpful.

They're still not showing the ones I want, mid-season, but they're doing the run-up to the next season, coup thru allies.

From: [identity profile] ozsaur.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-27 11:06 pm (UTC)
I like [livejournal.com profile] thepouncer's idea of organizing a writing challenge. You get to pick your own theme, so you can get everyone else to write the kind of stories you like without having to write them yourself.

Other than that, you might try baking. Cookies, brownies, muffins...

Knit little SGA-character dolls! Sew yourself a Teyla outfit. Redesign someone else's website. Build a scale model of Atlantis from toothpicks. Collect statistics on transformation stories in the fandom. Draw floor plans of John's and Rodney's rooms and refurnish them.

Flee in panic from the crazy woman.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-28 06:34 am (UTC)
On my old phone camera, I have a picture of me and some people from slumberparty building Atlantis from tiny creamer containers with a sugar-packet jumper. We got creamer from other tables. Somewhere outside of Seattle, there are families who are told the story of the Crazy Girls That Stole All the Creamer and Built Things.

I really need to get that and iconize it.

The statistics thing--ohhh. I like statistics. Those are *fun*

*ponders this*

Wasn't that what the construction project of the monstrous rabbit warren was for? Don't tell me you've already finished it to your satisfaction.

Your level of sanity is rising, m'dear. I worry for you.

From: [identity profile] everagaby.livejournal.com Date: 2006-06-28 05:36 pm (UTC)
When in doubt, collage. No, really. I lost track of how many Farscape collage folders I made in high school when bored.

If that gets boring, mix-tape. Listen to the music you own and figure out which songs remind you of which characters, and of what pairings. Write them down, list them here, and let fandom fill in the blanks.

In related news, why the hell do I have so many stories to finish? And no will to finish them?
