On a topic completely unrelated to any current or near-current past events, it just occurred to me while pondering my reading is that Merlin has a very low proportion of uberangst. I mean, there is angst, but not like, the kind where you leave a story wanting to slit your own wrists in the bathtub afterward because, woe, the world is dark and all is doomed to love and despair, and even brownies soaked in chocolate fudge isn't going to help this.

...granted, this is because our (multiple) source ending is angsty as anything, so really, we're rebels and totally subverting the paradigm to synergize a new and exciting appropriation of the end game. I would like to encourage continuation of this trend.

I'd like to know if you are impressed with that sentence, too. I learned those words recently at an office meeting. I also learned you can't will yourself to death no matter how long you hold your breath. Odd, that.

Oh man. I love this shit.

I feel we haven't fully explored the implications of the Quest for the Holy Grail as an organzing narrative for the Knights of the Round Table. Clearly, as a yonic signifier, the Grail indicates a Lacanian “lack” which the Knights are condemned to eternally seek. As the desired object, the grail may be safely inaccessible, allowing it to remain eternally desired, (the Zizekian implications are obvious and left as an exercise to the reader.)

Doubtless the Grail indicates the deferred longing for the feminine, which as knights and exemplars of masculinity, they are not permitted to embody in their gender or sex roles.

Thus, I hope I have demonstrated, grail == buttsecks.

I believe that Galahad's ultimate attainment of the Grail must be taken to indicate that he is not constituted by a condition of 'lacking' the feminine. Which is to say, in Galahad, the "perfect knight" we have the perfect union of masculine and feminine, (as indicated by references to his beauty which may be indicative of not androgyny but hermaphroditism.) Galahad is able to attain the grail (the yoni) because it is already //within him//.

We may ask, then, what is the organising "lack" of Galahad's condition? I believe the obvious answer is the inability to fulfil the twin and opposed biological destinies of his dual nature; to impregnate, and to be impregnated, roles which in Camelot, surrounded by Knights seeking buttsecks, have no place.
