From [personal profile] mrshamill's LJ: How do they get to be that way? by Roger Ebert. Framed in the actions of the protesters of the mural at Miller Valley Elementary School in Arizona (for specifics on the controvery, go here and is discussed by Unfunny Business at Journalfen here), it also explores growing up in a racist society and his own personal steps toward understanding and fighting it in himself.

'Van der Sloot' Google search stuns slain woman's brother - for those who own televisions, you probably remember the disappearance of Natalie Holloway in Aruba on May 30, 2005 and the continuing efforts of her family to find her body and the killer(s).

Keep that date in mind.

On May 30, 2010, Stephany Flores Ramirez of Peru vanished after a poker tournament. Video confirmed her and a man enter a room and witnesses state the man left; Stephany Ramirez did not.

The man was identified as Joran van der Sloot, the major suspect in the disappearance of Natalie Holloway and a classy individual who is wanted in the US for extortion in promising the details of Natalee's disappearance in exchange for money, who once claimed he'd sold her into slavery in a 2008 Fox News interview, who allegedly tried to sell other people into slavery in Thailand, and who was taped admitting that he'd been instrumental in her disappearance.

Not to like, jump to conclusions about his character or anything--God knows everyone makes mistakes, and who hasn't done a little human trafficking and extortion?--but wow, that habit of being around young women who disappear on May 30th is something he needs to seriously reconsider.

So you know, anyone know what was going on with him on May 30 for 2006-2009? No reason I'm asking.

More on Joran van der Sloot at CNN as Peru investigates the death of Stephany Flores Ramirez.

Not that I am jumping to conclusions. These things just happen.

Edited for spelling; what was I reading that involved a Hollabee? *facepalm* I hate Mondays.

The date coincidence is so disturbing. Bad enough he's murdered two women (I think it's reasonable to think it's likely that he's got something to do with Holloway's disappearance/probable death), but the dates...they *do* suggest that he may have some kind of ritual thing and there may be four or more victims. Maybe without family who were able to make enough of a fuss to ping international news.

Hopefully even if he's never convincted for Natalee Holloway's disappearance this might bring her family a measure of peace.

Yeah, the date thing and the circumstance tip it from freaky to disturbing. That does suggest there's something ritual about this.
