Okay, so this was reported on [community profile] fangasmic and I did not believe it and then I clicked on the link and yes this is real wtf.

Sony Makes Cats Tweet With Wearable Lifelogging Device

...what?

I mean, seriously. What?

Well, it can't be that hard to just tweet, "feeling murderous fury", whenever the cat is wearing it...

Did you know you can easily install a thingum to make your /plants/ tweet life-logging info? No lie, it's been around for about two years at least.

Think that's mostly along the lines of you getting a message when the plant needs watering, though.

The thing that gets me is "5% of their body weight". That's like a 160-pound woman being forced to carry around a gallon of milk everywhere she goes. Just to give some humans some entertainment...

And yet they can't seem to write decent software for their eReader, but it does explain why there are 300 buttons on a Sony DVD remote.

STOP INVENTING SHIT THAT DOESN'T NEED TO BE INVENTED

THINK OF THE CATS AND HOW THEY'LL EAT OUR NOSES IN OUR SLEEP IF WE MAKE THEM TWEET

I mean. Rageslock aside, I just don't get it. What's the purpose of having a cat tweet canned messages? That would be so repetitive. And pointless.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 06:10 am (UTC)
Well, it is Twitter.

And...yeah, IDK either. THE CATS ARE GOING TO COME FOR US NOW AND I DON'T BLAME THEM.

From: [identity profile] jamesinboots.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 06:12 am (UTC)
LOL, true. :D

Cats are smart, man, they're going to come up with a counter-attack well before Sony mass produces.

/o\ I was hoping it was one of those cool cameras that you can attach to your can and have it take pictures every so often, but that is just ... dumb.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 06:27 am (UTC)
I just--keep wondering where the breakdown in logic came. Put cameras on cats! For tweeting! Brilliant!

...why?

It is the stupid canned phrases that are tripping me up. If I had a cat, I would be all over attaching a camera to it, because HILARIOUS and interesting, but the leap to liveblogging... that is where I step off that train.

From: [identity profile] mardia.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 06:21 am (UTC)
Here's the part that REALLY freaks me out--I know what you're thinking, there's no way to get more freaked out, but hear me out first--somewhere, somebody is planning to modify this so that the tweets are in LOLCAT. Now, I'm up for a good "I can has cheeseburger" joke as much as anybody else, but the thought of that coming from an ACTUAL CAT--wow. No.

Yo, the internetz will end.

From: [identity profile] riazendira.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 06:30 am (UTC)
So it's safe for wearing, light enough so cats don't "refuse" it... but what about the ones who will EAT it? Is it safe to eat? I smell law suit. :-P

Here's the thing:

From: [identity profile] rattlecatcher.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 06:58 am (UTC)
When I'm not home, I pretty much assume my cat is:

1. sleeping
2. napping
3. considering a nap, maybe just a short one
4. eating
5. washing his ears
6. washing his manly parts, now with 60% less manly, filmed in Neuterama®
7. stretching after sleeping
8. shredding paper, especially important ones like the Magna Carta or lotto
9. peeing
10. taking a crap

Of this list, only one - number 5, is cute and/or tweet-worthy, and frankly, he'd tweet that just to remind me of how cute he is when I'm not around to witness it (the original Schroedinger theory did not involve isotopes).

So he needs this why?

It sounds like they combined this dude's idea (http://boingboing.net/2007/06/06/cat-has-camera-on-co.html) with the twitter craze in order to make... what? Money? Does it work like

1. Attach camera to cat
2. tweet
3. ?
4. Profit!

I'm just surprised that the Sony model is so ugly.

From: [identity profile] lurkerlynne.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 10:30 am (UTC)
While I have often wondered what my cats are thinking (especially when they are staring intently up a wall at nothing I can see) I can't imagine this would help at all. Besides, Jojo would find a way to break it.

Kinda wanna put a camera on them both, though. To see what they get up to outside.

From: [identity profile] lurkerlynne.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 10:33 am (UTC)
Also? 5% of body weight? Um, I have a 12 pound and 19 pound cat. Pretty hefty thar.

From: [identity profile] vamysteryfan.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 02:53 pm (UTC)
I had to spread this around. Because who wouldn't want to watch their cat licking themselves.

Love the idea of putting the tweets in LOLspeak Ahahahha!

*blinks* WE are currently at 8 indoor cats (were at 13 a few years back).

We consider ourselves cat experts.

Our success with collars with tags: ZERO.

(All but two of the original bunch were rescue, abused, adult, freaked out at collars, chewed them off, etc.).

I hate to think what they'd do to this, and seconding the loathing for canned phrases.

We're just trying to keep them separated from internet and our credit cards, to tell the truth.

From: [identity profile] aivilo-18.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-03 11:29 pm (UTC)
My problems with my roommate's cats coughing up hairballs all over the place are already plentiful. I don't need them coughing up electronics as well. Because that's what will happen. Immediate ingestion when no one is watching, just like all my hairties.

I'm just gonna go buy stock in something related to cat surgery, because that shit is about to go through the roof.

random person commenting sorry

From: [identity profile] lotuspaste.livejournal.com Date: 2010-06-09 02:21 am (UTC)
Haha, my friends all have outdoor cats, it'd be really disturbing to get the tweet 'this tastes good' from cats not in the house.
