It's got to be some kind of conditioning.

Watched Brother Bear with Child and Niece, cried my eyes out at the ending. Kota! Cuddling Dead!Mommy! All--cuddlynesss of saying goodbye. It's like tearnip. I'm just as bad at the beginning of Tarzan when Mom and Dad built their little treehouse and died. Man. Just hearing the music sets me off.

It's conditioned into us, dammit. I don't know how, but Disney and Co have done this, to where I watch a perfectly cute little cartoon and get all caught up in it and am very ashamed of myself, like I am now, though my nose is still running and my eyes hurt.

Stupid show.

I have also never met a overbudged blockbuster that I didn't either love or cry over bitterly.

Other Shows that Do This That I Watched Again Recently:

Armageddon: I've been saying this for two years, and still every time, Ben yelling how much he loves Bruce? Er, the characters. *shrugs* I cry and cry and cry right through Liv listening to her dad say goodbye, and I don't think I stop until the credits roll. Dammit.

(and on a sidenote: yes, I know the Bruce character is dead, but man, if ever there was a show that deserved slash, that one did. My God.)

Independence Day: Plane!Dude crashing into the ship. Oh yeah. I'm all about the papertowels.

Pearl Harbor: post-attack, the attempts to get the guys out of the interior of the ships as they go down. That one sad little arm sticking through the grating and slowly going slack. That just kills my nerves completely.

Romeo and Juliet: Okay, so sue me, but the modern remake had me on the floor through when Romeo, looking hot and well-armed, goes into the Church and sees her dead. Continued right through Juliet's actual death. Yes, laugh if you will, but that movie had so many redeeming qualities, not least of which was everyone had guns, gun holsters, and a propensity for opening their shirts. Oh yes. Pretty armed men all in a row. That was the happy.

I'm trying to remember the others that I whimpered my way through. I'm stumped. Possibly all that caffeine I've ingested.

But still. Brother Bear. That's just a fun movie. You know, up until my son asks me if I'm okay while Koda and his Mommy cuddle and the main character, and God knows, I cannot remember his name except it started with a K, decides to be a bear after all. Oh the sweetness.

*sigh*

This was an utterly pointless post brought to you by me, who, in a startling turn of events in The Life of Jenn and Family, has found out Sister and Brother in Law are reconciling and getting a new apartment together. This has, literally, been one of the few time in my life where I have to say, I apologize for every time I ever mocked Jerry Springer, because those freakishly bizarre shows? Can be true.

I never, ever, ever want to sit in a freakishly small room with the immediate family on both sides again and have everyone discuss their mental or relationship problems/former problems/psychotic episodes/bizarre life stories. The only word to describe it is surreal. These are supposed to be DEEP DARK FAMILY SECRETS YOU NEVER TELL DAMMIT. Okay? Is it so much to ask that everyone keep their secrets? Seriously? Write them up and leave them in a diary we only find after you die or something.

I know way too much about far too many related and semi-related people's sex lives. Way, way, way too much.

Is this damn week over yet? Please?

Man, I love that version of Romeo and Juliet. It is so pretty... I love the way Baz movies look. And sound. Fantastic soundtrack. It usually makes me cry, too.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 08:18 pm (UTC)
I watched it in the theatre twice. Just absolutely *loving* every second of it. Somewhere, I have the tape, which I wore out just flipping around in there. I so need to get the DVD one day.

And I have a *huge* love of Mercutio's acid monologue. And the drag. *grins*

From: [identity profile] soundczech.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 08:23 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's really well converted to the contemporary. It's pretty seamless. I saw it twice at the movies and also have it on video somewhere. Hee. I was like thirteen when it was in cinemas, hard to believe.

Mercutio is fantastic. And Tybalt. I seriously just love the way everything looks.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 08:29 pm (UTC)
I was twenty. Oh, you whipper-snapper you. WHIPPER SNAPPER.

Tybalt was so--I don't have the words. Slick in such a hot way. And man, he gave good death.

Mercutio. *sighs* I just loved it. That adaptation just worked for me in every way.

From: [identity profile] soundczech.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 08:30 pm (UTC)
God, now I have the strongest urge to watch it, and I can't find my tape.

I'll be twenty in November. THE TERROR.

um. Kenai.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 09:08 pm (UTC)
*G* Thank you. I was terrified that by the end of the night, I'd be watching the damn thing again to find the name, then watch the entire thing, because I *have* to, then...

Well, you know where it goes from there. *sighs*

I have 5 words for you...

Nestor the long-eared Christmas donkey.

*raises hand*

That sounds familiar, but who is it? *curious*

It's one of those Christmas specials. Kind of a cross between Dumbo and Bambi. Nestor is a little donkey with very long ears that everyone makes fun of. His mother dies saving his life in a snowstorm (she covers his body and freezes so he can survive) (er, or maybe it's a sandstorm, I forget). Nestor then goes on to be the donkey that safely carries Mary (Jesus' mom) and leads Joseph to Bethleham through a sandstorm because he can hear where the town is with his super long ears.

The part with his mom. I cried the first time I saw it. The second time I saw it I knew what was coming and cried starting 5 minutes *before* it happened. I've never had the guts to watch it a third time even though I now actually *own* it on DVD. (It was on a disk with other Christmas specials.)

Oh man. Yes, that is THE tearjerker. COVERS WITH HER OWN BODY.

*whimpers*

It's good to know that there are others out there who still cry during movies. I swear everyone I know have either dry tear ducts or just can't be moved to cry at a time that is obviously meant to evoke emotion!

One movie that always makes me cry is Peter Pan, especially the end where Wendy goes back and Peter is alone. Am I the only person that cries after that movie?

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 09:09 pm (UTC)
Ooh, I didn't see that, I don't think!

But the description is making my eyes want to start watering. *Dammit*.

I'm all about the crying. It's just sad. *heh*

From: [identity profile] hopper-ho.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 09:27 pm (UTC)
Oh really? They did a re-make of the original recently. I believe its out at the movie rental places by now. And I heard there's something to its effect coming out with Johnny Depp soon.

I don't even think about crying anymore, it just comes naturally, especially if I see one of those Hallmark commercials, the rare times I'm actually watching TV.

From: [identity profile] chance1562.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-27 11:23 pm (UTC)
Deep Impact. I cry every damned time. From when the mom gives her daughter the baby and tells them to go up until the end, just one big tear.

Gah, I was crying for hours after I saw that the first time. Such a wuss (but at least I'm not alone!)

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-29 05:55 pm (UTC)
I've nver seen it. *gulps* Oh man. I need to *see* it.

From: [identity profile] chance1562.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-30 10:55 am (UTC)
Only if you want to be a sobbing wreck for a few hours <g>

Armageddon also just had me crying forever from the time Ben Affleck is screaming "I love you!" at Bruce Willis' character up to the end and then beyond. I am such a wuss.

The Boy Who Could Fly also makes me cry at the end. Again with the wussage over here.

From: [identity profile] roguewords.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-28 12:22 am (UTC)
I can't watch Armageddon without crying. A friend of mine lost her father when she was younger, and it still gets me.

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-08-29 05:55 pm (UTC)
*nods* it kills me. Every. Time. Even when I'm ready for it. Even when I *know*.

*hugs*

Yep. My eyes *hurt* after, too. I'm sitting htere, sniffling and wiping away the tears. *sighs*

I really like that version of Romeo and Juliet too. The purist in me didn't want to, but I dooooo. I like the scene where Leo's in the pool while wearing armor. It's cool. There's a lot of watery scenes in that movie. This is also the movie that made me go "huh, there's a lot of drug references in Shakespeare". Very poignant scene where Romeo tells the apothacary/drug dealer "I pay not you but your poverty." Some things don't change much over time, I guess.

*grins* Doesn't it, though? It kills me. It's one fo the reasons I love it. It makes Shakespeare, at least to me, very accessible. I mean, I loved it in play form when I first read it, but man, this worked really well for me, too.

*grins* I see you remember. Yes, them, and *his* family. My dearest God.

I got choked up during the opening credits to "Love, Actually" and by the time a certain waitress said her piece, I was sobbing like someone had run over my dog. By the end of the closing credits, Mr. Bone had to come over to my side of the couch and hug me.

Another weepy one? "Heart and Souls". Kyra Sedgwick, Robert Downey, Jr. Alfre Woodard. I dare you to get to the end without needing a Kleenex or two.

And I bawled through pretty much all of the remake of "Father of the Bride," but that's because I'd just gotten married and had never imagined ANY of it from my parents' point of view, and I had to call them up and cry all over them, too.

"Armageddon" got me, too, and IMHO, Ben's passioned declaration of love was one of his better acting moments.
