I am having one of those mornings where I am almost certain that dealing with one more human being who is not either a blood relation or someone who has seen me drunk can only end with me sitting on the roof trying to shoot small animals with only the power of my mind.

Also, there are no small animals around here, and I quite like small animals, so you see where this kind of thing could lead. And no, I can still admit I am not telekinetic. I mean, if I was, trust me, the entire world would know in very short order. Well, I mean, as soon as I knew what to do with it, but I've watched a lot of X-Men. I will take inspiration from cartoons, as one does.

I have started, stopped, and started three separate stories, two of which are the same story from different points of view and time periods. The thing is, no, I still have no idea what they are about. One however, does involve snow.

Also currently looking at my newest group of tests, I seem to have named everyone after the descendants of Henry II. I have like, eight generations of Plantagenets applying for benefits right now and I think I'm denying Edward I Medicaid. And the sad part is, I did most of it from memory.

Welcome to the glamour that is my life.
Swiped from [livejournal.com profile] trobadora: Ann Somerville gives a very concise and thematic summary of RaceFail here. If you seriously haven't gotten to read up on this yet due to what probably feels like a metric ton of posts, I'd suggest this would work very well for summary and starter links.

For more info--I almost want to turn this into a blockquote to add to all my posts on this so I don't forget it again:

Seeking Avalon: Timeline which is referenced also in the above post along with a lot of other good links.
Rydra Wong's Link List and for the first link post made about this subject (I read this one first back when it came out, so I'm pretty sure this is probably the first on the subject; also, it's the first in that tag) here have the first posts on the subject. Yes, that is January 14, 2009.

Also, just because this is one of my favorites: I Didn't Dream of Dragons by [livejournal.com profile] deepad.
When I was around thirteen years old, I tried to write a fantasy novel. It was going to be an epic adventure with a cross-dressing princess on the run, a snarky hero, and dragons. I got stuck when I had to figure out what they would do after they left the city. Logically, there would be a tavern.

But there were no taverns in India. Write what you know is a rule that didn’t really need to be told to me; after having spent my entire life reading books in English about people named Peter and Sally, I wanted to write about the place I lived in, even if I didn’t have a whole bookcase of Indian fantasy world-building to steal from. And I couldn’t get past the lack of taverns. Even now, I have spent a number of years trying to figure out how cross-dressing disguise would work in a pre-Islamic India where the women went bare-breasted. When I considered including a dragon at the end of a story, I had to map out their route to the Himalayas, because dragons can be a part of a Tibetan Buddhist tradition—they do not figure in Hindu mythology.

musical interruptions

To continue bemoaning my life, I just want to add to the list, if Criminal Minds just has to play a song, it should damn well be available for download somewhere on the fucking web besides youtube.

Also, did everyone but me know of this miracle? Tunefind for all your "what the hell was that song on that show?" needs. This is going straight to bookmarks in capslock.

Also, because if I don't, I'll forget. My Side of the Story by Hodges, and oh my God, iTunes, this is a consumer culture and yes, I do think a clever move is to have songs to buy when you finish a show, why is that hard to understand? It's a recession. We aren't dead. I can pretty much assure you I can manage ninety-nine cents.

I can actually feel everyone's silent judgment. I know. It's just. Yeah. Judge away.

ETA: Crisis averted!
