Places to Go, Things to Read

Raijahn fulfills a challenge, sort of, in fictional nonfiction. It's intersting. You should read it.

And also theorizes on Chloe's birthday here. The girl does her research.

I *had* fic recs saved and now I can't find them. I have a bad feeling that shutting down last night while half-asleep is going to lead to some very, very scary lookings for that Justinfic I started.

Stupid sleepiness.

Grr.

Curious

A long time ago, there was this chick who ran one of the lists I was on and was usually pretty freaking dour. Then, boom. One day, she was all perky and uplifted and excited about everything for like, days, and it was--well. Creepy. Not in a bad way, just in a 'aren't you supposed to be snapping at people for no reason' way, and she talked about finding Oz the way other people talk about finding personal salvation. It took me about three months to figure out exactly what she meant.

Does everyone get that when they stumble violently across another fandom that they just click with? I remember my utter joy in finding into X-Men, the near-ecstacy of Smallville, literally falling across QaF panting, and well. You know, I assumed everyoe got all emotional, but. Now I just wonder if I'm weird.

You may very well be weird (all the best people are *g*), but no, I think that this over-emotionality is a pretty universal response to finding one of those "right" fandoms. Of course, not everybody expresses emotions in the same way and not all fandoms *encourage* the same kind of reactions. The 'squeeing' that's common in popslash pretty rare in, say, Holmes/Watson or Good Omens. Granted, they're smaller fandoms (it's easier to squee in the midst of a crowd *g*), but still....

I'm not usually giddy on the surface, but believe me, I'm *always* giddy inside when a new fandom clicks for me. Embrace your enthusiasm. I mean, this *is* supposed to be fun, isn't it? :)

*grins*

Giddy is *so* the right word. Just intensely, fantastically *giddy*.

*happy sigh* Giddy.

Giddygiddygiddy.

When a fandom clicks for me, I get seriously, seriously giddy. I usually try to keep it under control in "public" (when posting on lists or commenting, etc.), but it creeps out somehow, be it in chat with a fellow fan or in an overenthusiastic post (or three) in my LJ. To me, it's just another symptom of the "honeymoon phase," like devouring badfic at alarming rates or joining every list you can find for your new fandom (or hunting down and friending the LJs of everyone who has been mentioned as writing in said new fandom, as the case may be).

Hmmm. Honeymoon phase. Sounds about right. It's been a year with SV and I'm still there. lol

*stares at icon* And may I say what an absolutely stunning icon that is? *continues staring*

It's nice when it lasts so long, isn't it? I'm there with QaF right now.

Isn't it gorgeous? The artist, [livejournal.com profile] paddies, is incredibly talented and has made a number of them.

Yeah, it is very nice. It's also nice to go back and get excited again. lol

Ah, yes. I have an icon from her that I entitled 'fuck'. lol

*giggles* Yes, devouring the badfic. It's like, required.

And yes, with the friending. Oh yes.

*Huge Hugs* Thanks so much for pimping me, sweets! I really appreciate it.

And you're not weird. Unless that means I am, too. *winks* You should see me when I read [livejournal.com profile] dolimir's Mercy Chronicles. I can cry at the drop of a hat with those stories. lol And actually watching the show? Whoo boy, look out.

*laughs and laughs*

I've had maybe a unique experience in fandoms where it's been about the people first, the reading second and the writing last?

And you know, for those (short!) sweet months in SV, it was all about the people. You, mostly, with your huge shared enthusiasm and encouragement. I'm pretty sure their are a whole bunch of people who owe the fact that they started writing and posting to your encouragement -- and I thank you for it. You make fandom a hell of a lot of fun!

Re:

*snickers* You are a PIMP. Like, a dealer. It's wrong and wrong. And *sooo* right.

And pah. I have nothing to do with people writing. I just leech onto those that do and whine until they write something for me. I've been told this is endearing.

Okay, I tell *myself* that. Out loud, even.

Have I whined at you lately? *hopeful*

Finding QAF fandom certainly put a twinkle in my eye and a spring in my step. I came from Buffy, which was fine because I could at least acknowledge that in public. Here in the UK nobody has heard of QAF and I don't feel inclined to explain, in graffic details, what it's about to my nearest and dearest.

Re:

*hee*

I try to figure out how it is possible to introduce my fannishness into conversation, and so far, I freeze every time.

Which will *not* help me find more fans in my area.

Though I *did* explain it to my mom, and I dont' think she's recovered yet.

Nah. Not wierd - You're just a fangirl, sweetie. *g*

In my experience it is that way almost every time.

Re:

Faaaangirl.

It even sounds cool.

Giddy fangirl. I seriously love how that sounds.

From: [identity profile] elke-tanzer.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 06:20 am (UTC)
If you're weird, then so am I.

:-)

I'm still sort of honeymooning in quite a few of my fandoms. If I don't let myself fall into OTPwars or TPTBbitching, I can draw out the honeymoon for years.

So who else marathons entire DVD sets in a weekend? :-)

Re:

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 07:17 pm (UTC)
Ooh, you know the trick to fannish enlightenment!

Mmm. DVD marathons. I should try that one day. Just me, the DVD player, coffee, and my computer for squeeing.

Mmmm. Squeeing.

From: [identity profile] chance1562.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 07:43 am (UTC)
Nah, you're not weird (any more than the rest of us anyway <g> ). That's the "Yay, I found a new happy place!!!" place feeling and I live for it.

Besides, where else are you going to find fodder for fics? ::snicker::

From: [identity profile] xoverau.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 01:44 pm (UTC)
No, you're not weird. For me it's always like falling in love. You bore everyone talking about it and think about it constantly, and everything in your life falls into step with it.

If you're talking about recs I sent you last night, I saved the IM and I could always mail it to you.

Re:

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 07:19 pm (UTC)
*nodnodnod* Yes. Exactly.

Giddy, boring fangirl.

I have a thing for adjectives. *g*

I saved them too. They are open for clicking while I hyperventilate through recs pages, thinking, it will never end! Ever! YAY!

Because I am that obsessed right now.

From: [identity profile] lainy122.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 06:24 pm (UTC)
Nope, you're not weird. Well, not in this sense, anyway ;) As an extreme multi-fandom gal, I have to say it's always like that. It reduces you to a 13 year old going "omg! Liek, squee!" Internally, of course ;) Because when you say it aloud you annoy people *g*

Re:

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 07:20 pm (UTC)
*laughs* HOw many fandoms?

I try *really* hard not to squee on the outside these days. People look at you *very* oddly. Weird people.

Re:

From: [identity profile] lainy122.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 07:28 pm (UTC)
I only squee about really important things. *nods matter of factly* Like when my favourite tv show comes on, or an actor says something that can be taken the wrong way *bg*

As for how many fandoms....*cough15cough* But it's alright! I'm only majorly addicted to about 7 or 8 *g*

From: [identity profile] ragingpixie.livejournal.com Date: 2004-02-11 07:51 pm (UTC)
dude. i just posted my tenth qaf fic in three months. considering i haven't posted ten fics in two YEARS, it's a major thing.

QaF rocked my socks right off, and I couldn't be happier.
