(no subject)

The tooth is fixed. No longer shall I feel like I should be living on some mountain range, married to a close relative, chewing straw (thank you for that image, [livejournal.com profile] cjandre), and eating some sort of freshly killed game.

Oh yes. The Theme Song to the Beverly Hillbillies has totally left the building.

Guilty about missing work. Don't care. A surgical evaluation by whtaever the term is for the guy who removes teeth using surgery tomorrow morning. Planning to bring along something to cheer me up, like my will or something, while he's telling me of the horror of my back teeth. Also don't care. Looking forward to the fact that this weekend, I shall be writing a LOT. As is meant to be.

Got to see Child play t-ball. Amusment never ends, though the coach positioned himself strategically so Child could not build sand castles. Instead, Child amused self by flipping hat over and over and occasionally spinning in circles.

It's frightening when one sees WAY too much of oneself in their child.

Internet connection keeps going out. Very annoying.

Looked at QaF DVDs of Season One. Must start a savings account to buy. That is so sad to think about. An account for the yarn, an account for DVDs....

Still scared of The Ring, but now can logically think along with the terror. Can anyone, anyone, explain what the hell she was SUPPOSED to do exactly? I mean the reporter chick at the end, because man, I was stumped. Though I liked her solution. In a creepy way.

Now, to entertain yourselves, this is--possibly the oddest thread I've see in my LJ.

suz and kernezelda sing to each other

Yeah. I--am fascinated.

Fourth time kicked off tonight. Pattern. Dont' care. I have a TOOTH!

Also. *hugs* to [livejournal.com profile] taraljc just 'cause she's so damn cool. And keeps making tempting Firefly noises. Hmm. Must mull.

I can send you tapes of US QaF season 1 (and some of season 2 - I got fed up with the show partway through, but kept the tapes for, um, no reason); would that do for the time being? If so, send me your address, and I'll get them to you, since you're a friend of my dear Celli. :-)

Seriously, and thank you. I like rocking. :-) Now, I was talking about the US QAF, but now I'm not sure if you were or not. If you were talking about the UK QAF, I have season 1 of that on tape, but not season 2, and I'll be happy to copy season 1 for you.

Please let me know which QAF you want and send me your address, and I'll get going on the copying.

The Ring

From: (Anonymous) Date: 2003-06-26 04:48 am (UTC)
Basically, think of it as a chain letter, only in the form of a video tape. You want to stay alive, make a copy and send it out. Eventually, there will be a lot of copies reaching a lot of victims.

If you find The Ring creepy but interesting, you should watch the Japanese version. Minus the hollywood special effect, but the mood setting and pace of the movie is better that the Hollywood version.

And much more creepier, even with subtitles. @_@nug nug

BTW, when will we get to see more of The Yard?

Can anyone, anyone, explain what the hell she was SUPPOSED to do exactly? I mean the reporter chick at the end, because man, I was stumped. Though I liked her solution. In a creepy way.

She's not supposed to do anything but copy the tape and pass it on. There was no way to stop Samara, as they learned. So really it's just a matter of saving her own skin.

The point of the tape is to infect as many people as possible, for reasons that aren't explained in the first movie. See, The Ring actually has multiple novels and movies in Japan, so that first movie isn't the whole thing.

If I remember the eventual explanation correctly, originally Sadako (the girl) intended to find a person to actually host her and help her be reborn through the "infection" from the tape. Of course she got to kill and terrorize a bunch of people along the way, which I'm sure was a great way to exercise some of her anger. So there are, I think, three possible outcomes to infection from the tape: the host copies the tape and gives it to someone else, infecting them and thus saving themselves--the host lives; the host is infected with Sadako but can't actually complete her rebirth--the host dies; the host is infected and successfully gives Sadako new life--the host dies. The only way to live is to copy the tape and infect someone else.

So yeah. The reporter did the only thing she could to save her child in the end. Not necessarily the 'noble' thing, but...there you go.

I saw the original for the first movie, but other than that I found info through some fansites. Ring World (http://ringworld.somrux.com/index.htm) is really helpful for information about the sequels and such.

No problem!

From: [identity profile] kylandra.livejournal.com Date: 2003-06-29 03:36 pm (UTC)
Oh yes. Um, I have a digital copy of the original Ring..an avi, I think, if you can't get it elsewhere.

Also, apparently the first novel was translated and released. It looks like they'll be doing the sequel novels as well. So that's the original original story there.

From: [identity profile] kelly-girl.livejournal.com Date: 2003-06-26 07:54 pm (UTC)
Oh is that what was going on at the end of the movie? I figured out she had to copy it to save her child's life but still didn't know what in hell was going on. Freaky movie and scary as hell. Now I need to see a dumbass slasher movie to make me laugh. Because horny kids in the woods getting chopped up? Always good for a giggle.
