insta!recs and question

Okay, linking, but with this bit--I'm not sure about the etiquette of linking to a community, even if it's open, so if it's not-done, someone tell me?

And make zarah post these somewhere linkable. *grins*

Rosso Relativo by [livejournal.com profile] zarah5. Two things really worked for me. The stuttered break-up of the scenes, and Clark, who is the king of being freakily inconsistent. Ah, Smallville writers, how we love thee. Anyway. Most interesting is what he doesn't quite understand about limits, and the Clark and Lex interaction is fascinating. Bonus: interesting discussion in commentary about the story, which I recommend reading.

Underneath by [livejournal.com profile] zarah5. Jonathan POV, watching Clark and Lex and some very subtle pre-CLexness going on. Same as above--quick, short scenes, beautiful style, and some interesting things going on in Jonathan's head.

You know? Finding fic I've never read by an author I haven't read? It's turning out to be a good, good week.

*grins*

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] zarah is one of my favorite writers. I'm not sure quite how much Smallville she'll be writing, but I hope she'll write more. Though I don't want her to leave LotR RPS for it. If you're into that fandom, HP, or popslash, she's written some really fabulous stuff at her site (http://www.femgeeks.net/zarah/). I highly recommend it!

Meep. You should stop pimping me -- you'll just build up expectations, and then I won't be able to fulfill them, and!

Yes, I enjoy my sugar. Thanks for asking. ;)

Thank you, Kay. Flattery will get you everywhere.

Don't worry; I only pimp those who have yet to let me down. So I don't think there's much of a threat that you won't be able to fulfill expectations. *g*

One word: Crack!fic. Also known as Of Trees and Men. And you say I'm able to fulfill anything even vaguely resembling expectations...

I wish I paid closer attentin to friendsfriends--I get lost in there too much. *grins* But yes, excellent story and extremely talented writer. Dear God.

*in the happy place*

I've found some awesome people through my friendsfriends. *nods* I think that's how I found you, actually. Huh.

::blinks:: Oh. Um. Squee? Thank you! But wait, weren't you supposed to spend your morning contemplating Fifty Ways To Keep The Newbies Out Of The Fandom (the freestyle version of Simon & Garfunkel's 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover)? Or what was that I read in your LJ about how you while away your time? ::g::

But seriously, thank you. The first stories in a new fandom are always kind of an experiment, and instant acceptance is more than I could hope for.

And also, apologies for not sending any feedback your way yet -- graduation sucketh, it does.

Oh, and also, as the owner of [livejournal.com profile] contrelamontre, I can safely say that linking to stories there is perfectly fine. People do it all of the time.

*snickers* I'm up to seventy-five ways, thank you very much. I'm adding in random attacks on people who aren't yet in SV but COULD be in the future. It should cut WAY down on the number joining. Being proactive and all.

But seriously, thank you. The first stories in a new fandom are always kind of an experiment, and instant acceptance is more than I could hope for.

Rosso was amazing. I read it three times to catch all of it. I haven't seen it done like that before, massive plus. And well, you know, GOOD. Dear God, good.

Hold it, this sounds like encouragement. *frowns* I need to rethink my strategy here.

I'm up to seventy-five ways, thank you very much.

Good to hear, good to hear. Now, of course, you're aware of the difference between qunatity and quality, no?

I'm adding in random attacks on people who aren't yet in SV but COULD be in the future. It should cut WAY down on the number joining.

Sounds very effective. However, what, exactly, are your criterias? I mean, you can't just randomly choose people out of some fandom. What you need is some sort of system. The ones already in fandoms like Roswell are probably more likely to get sucked into Smallville, so you might want to concentrate on them.

Y'see, I've got experience!

I read it three times to catch all of it.

Um, yes? Just for curiosities sake, what did you catch? because it never ceases to amaze me how much better most people are at understanding my stories than I am.

I haven't seen it done like that before, massive plus.

Done like what? -- Wow. Do I sound about as clueless as I think I do? Sorry. Lack of sleep joining lack of brain in a beautiful combination of stupidity. Yay.

And well, you know, GOOD. Dear God, good.

Thank you. Just... thank you. This really does mean a lot.

Hold it, this sounds like encouragement. *frowns* I need to rethink my strategy here.

True. Have you already thought about insulting my intelligence -- oh, wait, I can do that all by myself, no need for you to do it, too -- or, um. Well. You're the expert here. You got seventy-five ways! Put them to good use!

Focus on sci-fi fandoms that include a young cast...yes. This could work very well. Hmmm.

In my reading, usually, Lex doesn't refuse Clark. When he does, he does it for the usual reasons--too young, too dangerous to the friendship, Lex-feels-unworthy, Clark-has-secrets, or there's someone else, you get the idea.

I haven't seen it done like this very often, where Lex refuses on he grounds that he can't trust Clark, whereas usually, it's that Lex doesn't trust himself with Clark.

The entire discussion of limits, at first, threw me--I wasn't entirely sure how you were going to wrap that together. But to me, it seemed very Lexian--it was more than the value of the friendship, more than Lex not trusting himself with Clark or not trusting Clark, but a simple acknowledgement that Clark isn't capable of being consistent enough and strong enough to take this kind of risk with, because it's doomed to failure the second it starts. As a friend, he's frighteningly callous at times, which is already a strain on most of his friendships, if not all. As a lover, it would be disasterous. Friendship can forgive or overlook things that would never be acceptable from a significant other, and that includes Clark's secrets to a certain extent. In all, it was an interesting way to bring it all together in one package of Lex saying no.

I'm not even sure by the end of the story that Clark really gets all of Lex's reasoning, or if he did, he'd understand the whys. I'm guessing he doesn't.

God, I worded that badly. And I could be completely off-base, so feel free to tell me so.

*grins* I reallllllly liked the story.

True. Have you already thought about insulting my intelligence -- oh, wait, I can do that all by myself, no need for you to do it, too -- or, um. Well. You're the expert here. You got seventy-five ways! Put them to good use!

See, though, now there's been personal interaction and all that. Completely messes most of the points up. Oh well.

*pokes gently* Write more SV fic. *g*

In my reading, usually, Lex doesn't refuse Clark.

Hrm. ::nods:: I haven't read all that much Smallville slash yet, but the one thing that was pretty much always a given was, that Lex wanted Clark. If one of the two wasn't sure about what it was he wanted, then it was always Clark. Mind you, I'm no expert. Yet.

Lex refuses on he grounds that he can't trust Clark, whereas usually, it's that Lex doesn't trust himself with Clark.

Oh! Hmm. Yes. I haven't looked at it from this angle, but you're definitely right.

As a friend, he's frighteningly callous at times, which is already a strain on most of his friendships, if not all. As a lover, it would be disasterous.

Oh gods, yes. As has already been discussed in the comments of the story, Clark is really not your ideal friend. I still can't quite get over the fact how he tends to blow Lex off one minute, then call him best friend the next one. Lex let's Clark get away with a whole damn lot of things, I agree that he's not the kind of guy who'd let a lover do the same.

Sometimes, I wonder about the drug snorting habits of the script writers.

I'm not even sure by the end of the story that Clark really gets all of Lex's reasoning, or if he did, he'd understand the whys. I'm guessing he doesn't.

In my head, he doesn't -- after all, in order to understand, Clark would first have to realize just how he treats Lex, at times. And I don't think he's already at that point, maturity-wise.

See, though, now there's been personal interaction and all that. Completely messes most of the points up.

A true fandom activist gets around such a minor detail, yes, indeed.

Write more SV fic.

::sighs:: I most likely will. Actually, I already have one rather long story completely planned out and in the being-written stage. Just won't get done anytime soon -- must concentrate on exams, like the good student I pretend to be. Well, occasionally.

And, hey! Thank you. ::hugs::

Hey jenn,

how *do* you link to a specific community entry? I've tried to figure it out and just don't get it! Help!

From: [identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com Date: 2003-03-26 08:53 pm (UTC)
Just the normal a href command for a specific post with the full addy of the link

do you mean to a community itself? it's lj comm instead of lj user for the command.

Did that help at all or am I misreading your question?

I can't figure out how to find the addy of the link specific to my post. I can figure out how to link to the community, but not to my specific post.
