Much, much recommended:

The Unknown Ajax by Georgette Heyer - I love her work in general, but this one is fantastic. Hugo may be my favorite hero since Freddy in Cotillion, being sensible, practical, brilliant, and with an impossible sense of humor. And in a lovely turn of events, the heroine is just as sensible, extremely smart, and adorable.

Also, there are smugglers. And shootings. I am all about smugglers and shootings.

Isn't Hugo wonderful. He is absolutely one of my favorite Heyer heroes, but I also totally love pretty much his entire kind of ridiculous family.

Yea! Hugo being gormless (does anyone know what 'gormless' means?). Yea! Anthea (just in general).

Have you read The Toll Gate? It doesn't much go anywhere, but I love both Jack and Nell. Also if you like smuggling plots, might I suggest The Talisman Ring?

while I adore many of Heyer's titles, The Unknown Ajax really is my verimost favourite - Hugo is amazing and Anthea terrific. I think I need to go reread this right now (wonder if my boss will mind?)
