GBBO is the devil

Finished series 7 of The Great British Bake-Off, and fighting urge to make puff pastry pies and seven layer opera cakes made up of ingredients I can't pronounce but sometimes involve the word 'curd'. Send help or baking supplies.

Does anyone have an urge to have a fan meetup where we do nothing but bake in a kitchen that if we blow it up, is covered by someone else's insurance (though yeah, not getting that security deposit back)? There should be some kind of resort where all the rooms have magnificent fully equipped kitchens (and a full bar for obvious reasons) and you can get packages like 'Ten Breads and Pastries' and 'All the Cake' where they supply you with baking supplies, daily (hourly?) housekeeping, and a bottle of vodka (for...reasons).

...imagine the foods I could set on fire or failed breads I could sob over in a kitchen I don't have to clean afterward.

As the kids say "mood". My baking experience is simple breads with my grandparents, boxed cake or brownies, and slice to bake cookies. Yet, while watching GBBO I have opinions on everything and tell the people on screen what they're doing wrong.

I'd love the idea of a kitchen to borrow and bake in that someone else cleans up. That's a great idea.

Same!

One of the judges of the Australian version, Maggie Beer, basically runs a class version of this! There's 12 cooking stations (mysteriously the same number as there are Bake-Off contestants) and you go there and cook.

You could actually set up an event in a commercial kitchen if you could find the space to rent.
Make it a party and involve some people who don't bake who will just do the eating and cleaning. Invite at least one person whose job is just to mix and serve drinks.

This sounds like a fantastic party.

This sounds amazing.

The main reason I don't at present bake as often as I'd like is having limited people available to eat the results. There's only so much cake I can eat by myself without terrible consequences.

I burn water so it wouldn't be a good idea to let me in the kitchen. I tried to make brownies last week and it said on the package to bake for 28 minutes. After 45, it was mostly cooked. Mostly. And yes, the oven was at the right temperature. I have no idea what happened. At least they were edible.

A baking meet up does sound fun. And, always, so does not having to clean up 😂

Oh, man, that'd be awesome. The only things I ever get to bake are cookies and variations on banana nut bread and similar yeastless breads and/or muffins, because I have a) a tiny, hard to clean kitchen, b) no money to waste on ingredients I might never use again, and c) not enough people to eat the results if I succeed, given I live in a household of picky eaters and people with dietary restrictions.

I want so badly to do baked goods that require a blowtorch, too. I mean, lots of other stuff, but, like, blowtorch.
