From:I think there's being aware internally and then there's being aware because it's forced on you from the outside. I keep coming back to this analogy and I'm not sure how well it works, but lets try it out.
Charles and his hidden telepathy in a rich white male body = bisexual passing as straight because he can easily do so and not really giving it a lot of thought that being completely open about himself might give him grief.
Erik and his hidden metal talents in a Holocaust victim body = gay, able to pass as straight when forced to, but mostly unwilling to hide who he is because he can't easily live the lie and to do so would hurt him
Raven and her blue skin and scales = transgendered, someone who is forced to hide who she is all the time and only able to "pass" in disguise, unable to live as herself
Looked at that way, Raven's journey is the heart of the passing debate because she can't and it's only through Erik's out and proud rhetoric that she learns to like herself. Meanwhile, Charles can too easily pass, as easily as breathing, and even though he knows intellectually he's an Other it hasn't impacted him. I mean, this is a guy who uses mutation talk as a pick up line - he just doesn't Get It. That's why his paralysis is so important - he's going to finally forced to realize what it means to obviously be an Other in society...

My impression is the world doesn't know mutants exist, so there wouldn't be any thoughts to pick up. And when women react negatively to being called a mutant, he reassures them it just makes them beautiful, then they fall in bed with him...
so I hold Charles to the same standard I hold Erik and Raven.
Oh I agree, it's just so not Prof X's nobleness (although you could make the case he's also not as noble as he'd like people to believe...). I kind of found all of them very hot as they casually messed around with the world around them. Is that strange?
