Wow. That was scary. Lex is like Jesus in the desert.
-- pricklyelf, on why Lex goes bad
LJ - Obi-Wan has a sort of desperate, pathetic patience in this movie. You can just see it in his eyes: "My padawan is a psychopath, and no one will believe me; I'm barely keeping him under control and expect to wake up any night now to find him standing over my bed with a knife!"
-- Teague, reviewing "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones"

Jenn: Because you are an addict.
Jenn: There are twelve step programs for this.
Beth: i dunno they'd work, might have to go straight for the electroshock.
Jenn: I'm not sure that helps with bead addiction.
Beth: i was thinking more to demagnitize my credit card.

silverkyst: I'm just nowhere near competent in the subject material to be taking it.

From:I am in school, but I'm in art school (mid-life crisis, maybe :) ...and I am dreading the dreaded "artist's statement"--which is ridiculous, but they're going to make me write one at some point. And I really, really want to turn in my Professor!Ray series instead. I only have to take studio courses for my BFA, so I'm studying art history on my own and reacting in fanfic and fanart. Because that is apparently the way my brain works. (Dammit, Jim) I'm an artist, not an academic, and I don't want to have to write out this left-brain stuff to make a point. I want to make art and let people absorb the point(points--multiple and shifting and possibly contradictory)....
I have a BA in English and French lit from many years ago, and I'm not convinced my brain can even go there again, back to that mindset (which I wasn't particularly good at even then, but I wrote well enough to flim-flam the profs!) When I figure out how Professor!RayK flim-flammed some university into giving him an Art History PhD, I'll put it into one of the stories, because he's in the same boat. He's really a sculptor, and the academics don't get him, but people who love sculpture do.
See, I can't even talk about meta anymore, and I don't know why. I admire the shiny brains of the people who do it well; I even sometimes put my two cents in, but I just can't write the stuff in any coherent way. It hurts too much. I do have ideas, but I just want to explore them in fic and art only.
Anyway, I'm delighted to see that you have yet more Due South on tap for us. A year isn't long. Last May I finished a Due South novel that took me three years, and it's far from the only 3-year project that I've done. And there are more in the offing... Writing fic takes time! I think meta is all well and good, but if you can write fic?? Then you should do that! Not only is it more fun for you...it's more fun for us, too! :) (Speaking only for myself, of course, but I know a lot of people would agree with that statement.)
