nothing of particular note

I am hungry. This is not particularly interesting in itself, which is why there will be somewhat more to this entry than merely that. I would say the thrill of fanloreing is gone, but sadly, no, it's not, when I found myself plumbing the dark and dangerous depths of google groups to locate a particular FAQ post made in alt.startrek.creative prior to 1999.

Normally, I would admit it was crazy and think it's funny. But no, this is deathly serious because I do not know if I can go on if I don't know exactly when the archive changed to Trekiverse and who staffed ASCA mod positions from founding until 2002.

So that was more than me saying I am hungry, no?

You know, I know there was something else I used to do in fandom. I know it.

(Also, still bracing myself to read House of Leaves. I've had it for months, and in all ways it still freaks me out. I can't even explain why. It just is.)

Many of the folks from the old Fuh-Q startrek slash list are around on LJ.

And a bunch of them were on asc. I can hook you up with some LJ's if you would like, as I think a few of them are probably good for assistance.

PS: Fanlore needs a whole section on Melissa Amber Flores Picard. I'm just saying.

Awww, isn't she a princess or something?

Princess. Admiral of the Starfleet Kids Crews.

Imagine if she was created in the time of Fandom Wank?

Oh, the humanity.

I bought House of Leaves many years ago when I found out it was a tie-in book to my fav CD (at the time) Poe's "Haunted"... and I have yet to read it. It scares me. So, yeah, I know what you mean.

[identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com 2008-10-08 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes me afraid.

[identity profile] rheanna27.livejournal.com 2008-10-08 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Last Hallowe'en, I vacillated for several weeks over whether or not to buy House of Leaves, and in the end I chickened out. Still haven't read it.

(Edited because that word does not mean what I think it means.)

It's on my bed. *stares at it* I think it's looking at me.

Truly, if I were you, I'd get it out of there while there's still time. ::nods emphatically::

ASCA was created and co-modded by someone George Morgan, who later passed away. He was also very active in the Great Slash/Smut War of '97.

BTW, I posted on the newsgroup and mentioned FanLore and suggested that Jen and/or Stephen get involved, but for some reason, my post hasn't made it out of moderation yet. I had an extremely hilarious moment of "do you know who the hell I am?!" before I...you know, got a grip. Also? Moderation is automated these days.

*bites lip* I seriously don't blame you.

See, this is where being a long time member of Fandom Wank enables me to have a little perspective. *grins* Fandom Fame is Fucking Fleeting. And really when I remember how I handled it back in the day, I'm glad my time is over.

House of Leaves is scary. When I was still commuting and hour+ on a train everyday (one way /o\), I was reading it. I literally lost time.

I usually lose time reading, but I'm aware of it going some place.

With House of Leaves, it would just be gone.

Very wigsome.

Add in the strange ways in which the author/narrator/editor/thing will suddenly in a footnote tell you all about the nameless, faceless thing sitting behind you and how it will eat you if you turn around?

*SHIVERS*

*BEGINS TO FREAK OUT* THE BOOK IS ON MY BED.

You're just psyching yourself out, putting off reading House of Leaves. C'mon, open it, it's gooooood.

Although I'll admit that the thought, What does my apartment do when I'm not home? did have me sleeping with the lights on for a while. *G*

[identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com 2008-10-08 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
SEE THAT. I have a five foot stuffed bear in my room. I already have a vague feeling that the reason he's in the same position every day and that I don't see him move is because he's just that smart. Add in evil house....

*twitch*

HOUSE OF LEAVES IS TERRIFYING.

NO, JENN. I GOT HALFWAY THROUGH IT AND I PUT IT DOWN AND IT. IT'S NOT A NORMAL BOOK. YOU READ THE END AND THE BEGINNING B/C THERE ARE FOOTNOTES AND ANTECEDENTS AND THEN YOU GET TO THE MIDDLE. THE END IS IN THE MIDDLE. SO I TECHNICALLY ONLY GOT 1/4 IN ON EITHER SIDE.

THAT IS NOT RIGHT. THAT BOOK IS WRONG AND EVIL.

[identity profile] winterlive.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
and so you should be.

it will eat you starting with your face.

My hate is epic. SO EPIC.

Your icon is making me think of Batman/It tentacle fic with crossdressing and theatrical make-up. Kinda wanna die now.

[identity profile] trie-squid.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Does it float?

...I kinda wanna read. *goes all Oedipus on self*

[identity profile] green-grrl.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I read a Due South fanfic that was a House of Leaves fusion, and it freaked me the fuck out. Can't reread it. No way in hell am I reading House of Leaves.

[identity profile] seperis.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
*shudders hard* Just hearing that is disturbing.

[identity profile] leld.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Link please?

[identity profile] green-grrl.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, you're into the creepy icons, aren't you? ;-)

The fic is [livejournal.com profile] custardpringle's The Fraser Record (Excerpts) (http://community.livejournal.com/ds_flashfiction/513181.html)

[identity profile] leld.livejournal.com 2008-10-10 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Only a few :)

Thank you!

House Of Leaves is easier to read and easier to deal with if you think of it as an art installation pretending to be a book.

I kept the light on all night for two nights when I first read it oh god. But it's worth the freak-out.

[identity profile] leld.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
I love of Leaves. It is the only book I've read that still scares me if I think about.

[identity profile] mindyfromohio.livejournal.com 2008-10-09 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read it TWICE. In crowded, well-lit places.
