intro: castiel the tablet

My Asus Transformer tablet came today, so basically I've been, you know, getting to know it, letting it meet the family of electronics it belongs to, easing it through its transition stage. Also have the dock for it, which when docked on its wee keyboard is netbook sized, and immediately bought Quickoffice Pro, as a lot of the reason I wanted it was for work. And for other stuff, but dear God, I am excited to clear out years of notebooks and put the files on a card already.

So far, happy.

For the record, my electronics naming officially covers about six fandoms; Sherlock, Watson, Charles, Arthur, Benton Fraser, Sheldon, and Castiel. More recently, I've started naming my hard drives, which honestly sounds weird until you realize I like to yell at them encouragingly, and yelling DRIVE C or UUID 035e8a97-130p-4ead-b6x9-3df543b0e6b4 is really odd and also, a lot of syllables.

Happy. It is a good tablet. Will review when I'm, you know, able to talk about it without helplessly wondering how it can be so perfect.

I look forward to your review. :) So far I've only used my Asus Transformer to read comics and show friends music videos. I wasn't sure if I should invest in the dock..I'm interested in seeing how it works for you.

Have fun! :)

I have an Asus Transformer tablet too! I'm really fond of it. I mostly use it for e-books and comics, though, so I haven't bought the docking station yet.

I have had mine for a week now!! I was waffling, with the decision, because so much of what you read is all "Android apps suck, buy an iPad, " but I hate iTunes, so much, and Android really does have good apps for what I'm using it for.

I love it. I even sewed up a case for it. :D I'll be excited to see your review!

Oooooh. Transformer or transformer prime? I've been eyeballing them & am looking forward to ongoing reviews!

Am totally jealous and also have been eyeballing this tablet forever. I really look forward to all your experiences with it.

Have you done android before?

*snickers* *g* @ your encouraging yells ;)

Soooo, Transformer? or Transformer Prime? (I gotta ask. --I have a Prime and I think I squee! over it as much as you are doing with your tablet :)

Is it running ICS?

Still haven't gotten around to buying this tablet. If you're going to test-drive, I'll wait a little longer.

Oh, I need to check, but I thought someone had mentioned it! No wonder I recognized it when reading. I went to the top Android tablets and this one was--second I think? Right after the Transformer Prime.

ICS - yes.

Short notes: it has one weakness, which I found out this weekend. The adapter is hooked up to a USB 3.0 and it overheats easy. I put it in the freezer for forty-five minutes and boom, it worked again. This seems to be a common problem. However, for me it's not a dealbreaker since it does fix it self and now that I know I'm keeping it, I'll buy a second adapter an a case. But it's a 3.0 usb that plugs into the adapter, so you really can't just use anything to charge, and it does not at all charge from usb to laptop with ICS. I'm getting roughly six to eight hours out of a single charge when it isn't docked; docked, it's literally fourteen hours or more unless you really run up it up, and there's a gauge to show you what is taking up the battery.

I bought Quickoffice Pro and I literally have no complaints. The dock keyboard is netbook sized, but I tested taking notes at work with the screen keyboard in landscape and it wasn't terrible which was really unexpected, though I wouldn't write a novel that way or anything. I'm having some weird issues with certain mp4s not playing video, but all music came through, and I've been running music as much as possible while doing anything else and there's not a delay I can find yet.

Give me a week to get a better idea of how it goes together, but I get the feeling a lot is at this point app choice on how well it works. I have no complaints for the tablet itself except the adapter issue. I'm wondering now if I should have double downed for the Prime, but the specs weren't so dramatically better that I felt I'd notice any real difference in performance.

Ooh!! Looking forward to what you have to say about this tablet. I've been lusting after it for a while....

For the record

Your post made me notice something about the way I name my hardware. Ianto the iPad, Cinna the iPodTouch, Lex the laptop and Sylar the desktop. Sounds like my iDevices get the good guys names, which is weird, since I totally consider Apple to be the Dark Side, while my Windows computers get named after the sexy villains. And why only boys? Well obviously, every female lead out there gets compared to Buffy and is found lacking. So my MacBook Air is going to be called Buffy, because it just doesn't get more awesome than her.

Hmm, I thought I remembered you having a device named from the SGA fandom?

John and John II were my previous laptops, though later John II was renamed to Adam.
