The thing about the new Core2 style is--this is so much fun to modify. It is.

However, I am going to destroy worlds or possibly pick up a small but terribly inconvenient addiction to sniffing paint thinner if I cannot figure out how to override my damn comment layout.

I tried to use the function I modified from negatives--no go. That literally killed the page horribly like a drunken girlfriend near leather seats. Is anyone out there using the new core and has modified theirs successfully, or heck, tell me why when I use my own classes, it suicides messily and unreadably?

Anyone who can also tell me how to get previous out of the middle of my page summary will be given eternal devotion as well.

I will walk you through it online, if you'll document it for other people.

Deal?

Yeah, I'm online right now. Emailing folks tonight was on my list for before I have to leave my house, but I still need to get the list organized, so getting someone started will make me at least get something accomplished.

IRC, aim, yahoo, LJ jabber: all work.

This. Document and post? I would like to read. &hearts

(I've been having the same problem with my layout; I resorted to clicking Preview and typing in that window.)

ME TOO, for I hate my layout and know next to nothing about what I'm doing.

Hmmm. It's kind of odd, but the thing that's bothering me the most is having the icons on the right side of the comments. It just... I keep not recognising posters.

*laughs* It's amazing how much we're simple creatures of habit.

For me? I can't stand the reading pages, and I'm trying to work out the least irritating one. I mean, my flist on LJ is all white background, black text, with occasional lemon strips to help me track seperate days. It's uber-simple and I love it.

And I want something mainly white and easy to read on DW too. Or, alternatively, a page that looks like a Word document so I can check on it from work.

Although, huh, whatever I just did made the icon appear on the left again. (Or did you do something to your account? I really can't tell.)

Well, if the ugly reading page gives a comment page that works for me, I may have to keep it.

Ooooh, that's a lot nicer. (I had an urge to pet my screen, but didn't. I did, of course, make grabby hands and call it "precious". But that's just mandatory.)

By "welcome to the code" how much knowledge do I need to make it work? I'm good at following step-by-step instructions, but a little timid when it comes to much more than that.

I've forgotten any LJ-esque coding I ever knew (read: it's been so long since I changed my layout/style etc that LJ has completely and utterly changed how one does it. About 3 times. Why, no. I am not bitter.) so the thought of trying to change stuff here leaves me cowering in mortal terror. And this is from someone who thinks herself pretty competent with HTML and css.

I think mainly, I just haven't worked up the courage to play around yet, and thus familiarity...

Ooh it's been so long since I've coded things but I need to get back into the habit. You, my dear, have damned me to an evening (or several) of glorious unproductivity.
