I accidentally read my first A/B/O fic last week. It felt a little like everyone was talking Swahili (also, hilarious things happen when you google "knotting.") I get the tropes, get the thrill of subversion of tropes, at least within the fandom I was reading in, but... I am still missing things. A lot of things. Because "beta" just seems to be a euphemism for "the characters I'm not interested in writing (porn) about" or "the ones who look like they'd lose the first cage match" and I can't figure out the structure of the paradigm or the worldbuilding. And there were a few too many flowing bodily fluids for my taste, but I was more confused by the setup.
