Just read and OMG this is SO AWESOME! I can't even. It's almost meta on powers sometimes, which is NOT a criticism, because I LOVE IT! Because this is what we're here for (and for other things, but also for this), taking the themes that were set up for some reason or other to their logical conclusion. To explore the consequenses that seem to be ignored in the source (though I gather that comics canon does go some interesting places already) because of the story they want to tell. (Which, what it all comes down to is the balacing of characters and their motivations and the plot and from which end you want to tell the story and I guess most canon materials come at it from the plot end, whereas much of fandom is about exploring the character angle.)

Alex is just absolutely great in this too! (There is also my personal approach to theoretical friendly telepaths, which is: If you really want to see that weirdass dream I had last night or listen to all the stupid anxiety and issues I carry around, then be my guest, but I don't actually think I'd be all that interesting. Because what most people fail to consider in their sudden shock of feeling exposed is that it's all ordinary to the telepath. Like how Americans are all very shocked at the concept of nude beaches or saunas and I'm all: Yeah, you go there and you might spend a moment or two looking at some goodlooking people, but mostly there are also lots of naked bodies that you have no special interest in and you're there for other stuff. Of course the analogy suffers because everbody knows their naked and can always put on clothes/not go, but the point is: Ordinary!
Which I guess in this story it kind of ISN'T for Charles (and Emma) in some ways, because he's always holding back. It might surprise people that the best defense in this case would be offense, because then it'd all normalize pretty quickly. Of course it wouldn't be what they knew as normal before, because Charles does use his powers.)

Also, I generally adore worldbuilding and exploring and training and all that and this is just great!
