*hands* Of the Final Five at the beach, they lost Moira, Hank is--well, Hank, Sean's a kid, so Alex is kinda it for reliable adults. It's kind of a relief Charles isn't dealing with Scott at this juncture; Alex is way more easy going and comfortable in his skin. And you know, going with the flow.
Also, I really like Emma and Charles (and I hope Charles gets over his prudishness soon) because of what they bring out in each other -- her potential as a telepath, his potential as a man. Teacher and student both for different lessons.
There's a sense of irony that Emma (and Alex) remind Charles he's still technically descended from humanity and not All Seeing Telepath Person of Fear and Despair.
