I.. do not understand. How do you get any marks if all you do is write down the answer? I'm used to questions like that being worth a certain amount of marks and occasionally losing points despite getting the right answer because I do have problems breaking down my logic process into A follows B follows C. My B is often a "normal" person's C. Or D. Or (increasingly more likely the further I got into high school math) passing by virtue of showing work and demonstrating that I *got* the concept, even if I'd start to forget basic things like carrying the one.

My mother taught high school math. She'd be horrified at the concept of not being encouraged to show your work. How do you correct a kid if you don't see where they're going wrong?
